Prommie
From: The Gaiapedia, the community encyclopedia about Gaia Online
Prommies are gaia users of high popularity and status in the GD. The term originated at approximately January 20, 2004 when the user, Troggard made a namedrop. After a while, it became a hangout thread entitled Gaia's Prominent Members (GPM). Whenever a non Prommie entered the thread, they were usually ignored or flamed instantly. The Moderators saw a disaster of hangout threads popping all over the GD, they decided to move all the threads to the chatterbox. Sadly, it did not help, when most prommies stuck to the GD and the GPM guild. They're considered elite by their flocks of fans and normally have expensive avatars. Prommies become famous by being witty, intelligent and creative by several means; some can be rather rude and tactless, other prommies are unusually kind. Prommies often have large quantities of gold, avatar art that is sometimes freely given, and perfected profile pages. Many prommies may also post many times a day. Prommies are not to be confused with a regular.
Users, often regulars sometimes recant against the prommies, some in hopes of becoming Prominent themselves. This normally is hopeless before it ever starts, fans flock to the offending thread and kill it quickly using flames and harrassment.
The term 'prommie' is typically only used in the General Discussion forum. It stems from the word "prominent" and can often refer to elitists and flamers, though is also generally reserved for especially popular or well-known users.
Prommies, although loved, are generally unhealthy for Gaia. Prommies should not be supported, and represent a possible Gaian "upper class".
