NPC:Rufus

Rufus is Ian's pet talking cat. Rufus looks after Ian's shop, the Barton Boutique, whenever Ian is out (often for plot reasons). In The Trial of Ian, Ian revealed that he comes from a long line of shopkeepers with talking cats, and both he and Rufus are the last of their lines. It is also revealed that he likes dancing with Ian (dancey), and that he occasionally imitates what Ian is doing. Although he's a cat, he has been known to bark like a dog sometimes.

- Rufus' Valentines Day Photo could be received by sending him a Valentine. He is also in Ian's VDay Photo, laying on his shoulders.

- Rufus likes FISH!
- Rufus is included in the last part of the Nancy Drew quest. Apparently his love for old, crusty lemon bars covered in lint and popcorn kernels, cuts his long boring tale short, so you can hand the detective kit he found to Nancy who then gives you the kit as a reward.
- He keeps an aquarium. You can find it in his profile.
- In the July 16th 2007 plot update, Rufus and Ian were reunited at Gambino Mansion.
- In zOMG Rufus sends you on a quest to find his diary.
- In the SOS event giving 1000 gold to Barton Boutique gave you a Rufus Cosplay which was Rufus' ears and tail that you could put on your avatar.
- In Kanoko's Dark Reflection Rufus had a dark reflection called Mister Rufus. He was a human and was trying to give away his feisty cat Ian. He wore a powder blue suit vest and pants over a white shirt and a top hat with a blue ribbon that was tied to look like tiny cat ears. He also looked very sinister.

- With SDPlus #2 and #115, a fish can be placed in the mouth, and a cat version of Ian is present.

- Rufus is a long loved NPC from 2003. When Rufus had to run the shop on his own, he really began to stand out. The manga introduced Gaians to his parental instinct, loyalty to Ian and playful nature.
