Happy first Friday of the new year, science lovers! January is already looking to be a rather promising month for Evolving Item-related research, I tell you that much. We've been working ourselves incredibly hard to make sure that this report, our first one of the year, is absolutely spectacular! And I tell you what: all those interns and assistants didn't pass out from exhaustion for nothing! We've got some absolutely amazing evolutions to cover today. Tale of Clarion's adventure still continues, whereas the brand new Josie's Journey has just begun!

-

Tale of Clarion: The adventurers continue to wander through the frozen meadow, their gift of sight allowing them to easily bypass all the treacherous traps hidden in the mist. Still, the path they walk is a dangerous one -- even their enhanced vision isn't enough to protect them from all the obstacles they will encounter on their journey. But the Clarion has other gifts prepared for the heroes as well. As they carefully pick their way through the frigid glade, they spy a chest just slightly off the path. The Clarion gives a faint chime, and the pair know that it is safe. Inside the chest are enchanted garments, capable of repelling nearly any magic attack. They quickly don these new clothes before setting off once more, emboldened by the Clarion's second gift.

Josie's Journey: Ever since she was just a little girl, it was always Josie's fondest wish to travel all around the world. She may be a happily settled shopkeeper now, but when she was younger Josie loved nothing more than exploring wherever she could. She spent her teenage years roughing it in the wilds of her homeland, trekking across the country and having some pretty crazy adventures! And, of course, discovering all the incredible clothes that would later influence her beloved Global Imports and her signature fashion sense. Want to learn more about Josie's amazing journey? Then stay tuned!

Wasn't that a great way to start off 2014, my little scientific prodigies? A brand new EI! Life truly doesn't get any better -- unless there's chocolate involved. That's been scientifically proved. Well, that's all for today, but be sure to tune in next week for more report-y goodness! You can see all these lovely evolutions and more in La Victoire. And don't forget to vote in our Weekly EI Poll and let us know what you think! See you next week!

Friday at last, my little crumpets of science-y deliciousness! We've got an amazing report today that is sure to whet your appetite for further Evolving Item research. In fact, I'd hazard to say that the report this week features evolutions that are just mouth wateringly incredible. I suppose I ought to apologize for all the food-related commentary, it's just that I'm feeling a little bit peckish. I've been working so hard all week that I've hardly had any time to eat! Still, there's nothing more rewarding than seeing all your efforts pay off. The evolutions this week from Tale of Clarion and Josie's Journey are so fantastic that it makes all those skipped meal breaks totally worth it! Let's take a look, shall we?

-

Tale of Clarion: Our heroes continued to make their way across the strange new land, wary of avoiding any traps or obstacles. But as they carefully picked their way through the dangerous path, the pair encountered a terrifying monster that towered over them all. With their enchanted armor and gift of sight, however, the heroes made short work of their attacker. Much to their surprise, the nightmarish creature was protecting a massive hoard of gold! Now wealthy beyond their wildest dreams, the pair continued on their journey with their bags brimming with coins and treasure.

Josie's Journey: Josie grew up in a crowded, dingy city. Even though she'd always wanted to travel and see the world, Josie spent most of her younger years studying at home -- she had never even left the city once! Her heart yearned for adventure and exploration, but instead Josie focused on her college applications like the hardworking student she was. However, while out picking up some groceries one day, Josie spied a pop of bright color out of the corner of her eye. A fashionable jacket was being displayed in the window of a small boutique, and Josie fell in love with the trendy, vibrant coat instantly. It took weeks of saving and scrimping, but Josie finally managed to buy that jacket right off the mannequin. Inspired by its flashy colors and unique features, Josie decided it was finally time to follow her dreams and travel as much as she could! After all, there was a great big world out there. And Josie planned to see it all!

My goodness, wasn't that just an appetizing display? I might even be drooling right now. Or perhaps that's a side effect of the pills I was taking to stay up for 72 hours at a time? Either way, it's nothing a little Science Bib can't handle! That's all for our EI report today, but be sure to stop by again next week when we'll have even more incredible discoveries to discuss. You can find these Evolving Items and lots more over at La Victoire! And don't forget to vote in this week's EI Poll and let us know what you think. See you next Friday, you decadent little morsels!

17 EI Report: Tale of Clarion and Josie's Journey!Edit

  • Icon announceAnnouncement EI Report: Tale of Clarion and Josie's Journey! - [NPC] Dr. Singh Fri Jan 17, 2014 12:46 pm

Happy Friday, boys and girls! I trust we all had a nice, productive week? I certainly did. Amazing what you can accomplish when you don't give a fig about sleeping, eating, or workplace safety! As usual, I'm here to report on the efforts of my team and myself over at the Evolving Item Labs and all the amazing research we've uncovered over the course of the week. Are you prepared to be amazed? Wearing your safety goggles? Seatbelt? Swanky lab coat? Good! We've got all sorts of science-y goodness from Tale of Clarion and Josie's Journey today, so let's jump right in!

-

Tale of Clarion: Our heroes were now laden down with treasure, enchanted armor, and incredible powers. Surely the Clarion had nothing left to show them? Still, the pair couldn't shake the feeling that their journey was not quite over just yet. An ominous portent fell over the two as they continued to travel across the strange land, something that they couldn't quite explain. There was no obvious, immediate danger, but they just somehow knew that something big -- and powerful -- was lurking in the shadows.

Or perhaps it was just their imaginations...

Josie's Journey: Josie carefully gathered up her belongings as she prepared to start her journey, making sure to pack as light as she could. After all, she didn't have a car. Or a bike. Or anything to travel on, really! It seemed she'd be enjoying her journey on foot -- at least, for a little while. Maybe she could find a used junker in a village somewhere? Either way, Josie was determined not to be deterred. She left a note informing her parents that she was pursuing her dream of traveling outside of her city, took a deep breath, and finally set off.

After what felt like an eternity of walking, Josie turned around and stared at the city she had now left behind her. From this distance it was just a darkened silhouette, a conglomerate of blocky buildings outlined against the blue sky. In front of her was a seemingly endless strip of a road, surrounded on either side by a flat expanse of land. No buildings, no homes -- no civilization. Nothing. For a moment Josie hesitated, a pang of early homesickness twisting her gut. But Josie knew she had to do this. She squared her shoulders, held her head high, and marched onwards. It felt almost as if something was calling for her out there, and she was going to find it.

Wasn't that splendid, my little scientific chums? Truly, you don't get quality like this from any other lab! Unfortunately that's all we have for today, but please tune in next Friday for more glorious science! You can see all these gorgeous items and more at La Victoire, and don't forget to vote in our Weekly EI Poll for your favorite items! See you all next Friday!

24 EI Report: Josie's Journey and Tale of Clarion!Edit

  • Icon announceAnnouncement EI Report: Josie's Journey and Tale of Clarion! - [NPC] Dr. Singh Fri Jan 24, 2014 2:34 pm

Greetings, my lovely little muffins of science-y deliciousness! I've been having just an amazing week so far. With Gaians helping to test out my groundbreaking new Theory of Evolution, I've been collating so much data that I've never felt happier! I've even brought in some extra help; that guy Ivan sure is handy with a calculator. But don't worry, guys -- no matter how excited I am to conduct a new experiment, I will never forget my one true love and passion. Evolving Item reports are practically my raison d'etre, and we've got such an fascinating one to get through this week that I scarcely know where to start! Not only has Josie's Journey experienced another remarkable evolution, but Tale of Clarion underwent an absolutely incredible finale! Let's take a look, shall we?

-

Josie's Journey: Josie continued to plod along the path, her feet growing more and more sore as she wandered. The occasional small town dotted the road she walked, but they were so few and far between that Josie could barely muster the energy to get excited for them. Maybe she just hadn't traveled far enough from her city yet? Just as Josie was beginning to question her decision to leave home, a sputtering engine and flash of metal rocketed past her. Josie coughed in the dust it raised in its wake, waving a hand in front of her face to clear the air, when she realized something: her bag was gone! Infuriated, Josie set off after the moped at breakneck speed.

No matter how much the thief gassed the engine, he simply couldn't escape Josie's wrath. She easily caught up to the bike and grabbed the thief by his collar, tossing him off as if he weighed nothing at all. Wide-eyed, the thief apologized and begged Josie not to beat him up, offering her a ride to the next town in exchange. Josie considered this for a moment, eyeing her would-be assailant carefully. He seemed just a few years older than her, with spindly arms and legs and not that much muscle. Josie knew she could easily take him down if he tried anything funny. And so she agreed, although she warned her new partner that she was a deadly shot with her earrings if he attempted anything even remotely suspicious. She hopped on the back of his bike and the pair set off to the nearest town, still several days away.

And although neither Josie nor her new friend were aware of it, this was how Josie met her first true love.

Tale of Clarion: The Clarion bell chimed a frightened warning as dark shadows advanced on our heroes. They gripped their weapons tight and exchanged a look, each of them aware that this was the final, climactic battle. With the Clarion ringing in their ears, they swung and hacked, slashed and parried; the shadows were everywhere, but their gift of sight and enchanted armor helped them evade their monstrous claws and magic. Finally, as twilight fell on the strange land, the last of the shadows found its incorporeal body pierced by the heroes' magic weapons. It dissipated with a faint hiss, and the battle was finally over. The heroes had fulfilled the prophecy: they had saved this land from the monsters that tormented it. The Clarion began to peal as a second moon suddenly appeared in the night sky. The heroes stared at it in wonder as the Clarion continued to ring, its music sweet and clear. It was peaceful.

That's it for this Friday's report, but we'll have tons more evolutionary goodness next week! I mean, who knows what will crop up? Please drop by La Victoire if you wish to witness these scientific marvels in person, and don't forget to vote in our Weekly EI Poll when you have the chance! See you next week, science lovers!

31 EI Report: Josie's Journey and introducing Adamant Vault!Edit

  • Icon announceAnnouncement EI Report: Josie's Journey and introducing Adamant Vault! - [NPC] Dr. Singh Fri Jan 31, 2014 12:43 pm

Happy Friday, science fans! Can you believe it's the last day of January? This year feels like it's going by so fast I can scarcely keep up! Of course, being the competitive scientist that I am, I simply view time's frenetic pace as nothing more than a challenge. You think you're better than me, time? I'll show you! I'll make this the greatest year for Evolving Item-related research that the world has ever seen! Maybe that will teach you to slow down some, huh? Punk. Anyway, I'm well on my way to guaranteeing myself a place in the annals of scientific history with this latest update! Not only do we have another stunning evolution from Josie's Journey, but we've just discovered a brand new evolving item called Adamant Vault! Oh, the wonders of science. Let's take a look, shall we?

-

Josie's Journey: Josie and her new traveling partner introduced themselves to one another. His name was Rudo, a lonely young man as desperate for adventure as she was. In pursuit of some excitement, Rudo had foolishly tried to join a gang who promised to initiate him if he stole from a traveler. Unfortunately for him, he'd picked Josie as his first target -- that hadn't exactly worked out in his favor. Still, Rudo seemed relieved, and the more time Josie and Rudo spent together the more she realized how similar they truly were. He'd been a bookworm, just like Josie had, yearning for something more before studying abroad. Hadn't her own journey started in a very similar way?

Together, the pair traveled on Rudo's teal moped across the sweltering hot country, visiting different villages and towns. Josie had completely fallen in love with traveling, and she found the architecture of each new location to be absolutely fascinating. And the clothes! A vibrant mixture of traditional and modern, just like the buildings themselves. This helped spark Josie's interest in architecture and fashion, which eventually led to her career in Housing and Global Imports in the future.

Adamant Vault: It appears that you've inherited a safe that once belonged to a glamorous siren of the silver screen. It's rumored to contain some of her most precious valuables. The vault slowly creaks open, and you're briefly blinded by the sparkling brilliance it contains. The first thing that catches your eye, however, is a stunning diamond ring...

Ah! I love when things have that lovely "new Evolving Item" smell, don't you? That's all we have for this week, but be sure to tune in next Friday for our next Evolving Item Report! Oh, and don't forget to vote in this week's EI Poll and let us know what you think! You can see these beautiful evolutions and more in La Victoire. See you next week!

07 EI Report: Adamant Vault and Josie's JourneyEdit

  • Icon announceAnnouncement EI Report: Adamant Vault and Josie's Journey - [NPC] Dr. Singh Fri Feb 07, 2014 1:24 pm

It's the first Friday of February, my adorable little sundaes of science! You know what that means, don't you? A brand new EI Report! I've had many sleepless nights formulating this one, let me tell you. Mostly because I invented a new pill that keeps you up for weeks at a time, and no one was willing to let me test it on them! Can you believe it? Some people just aren't willing to do what it takes in the name of science, Gaians. How sad. Either way, beyond the mild auditory hallucinations I'm feeling FANTASTIC! The voices in my head are telling me it's time to get this show on the road, so let's see what we've got on the dossier for today, shall we? It seems like Adamant Vault has evolved once more, and Josie's Journey is coming to an absolutely spectacular finish!

-

Adamant Vault: With the brilliant ring currently sparkling away on your finger, you further explore the starlet's stunning diamond collection. It isn't long before you discover two beautiful new pieces that take your breath away: a dramatic pair of earrings and a sparkling set of bracelets.

Josie's Journey: After a summer full of travel and sightseeing, Josie realized that her journey finally had to come to an end. She and Rudo had spent the entire season roaming across the country, exploring everything their small part of the world had to offer. But Rudo insisted there was one more stop on their trip: his palace. Although he'd kept it hidden from Josie, Rudo was actually descended from a long line of wealthy royals. He spent his entire life cooped up in the palace, unable to experience life outside of its decadent walls, until he finally made a decision to run away and see what the world had to offer. Perhaps he'd been a little naive at first -- trying to join a gang, he realized, was probably not the smartest move -- but traveling with Josie had truly opened his eyes. And although Josie was initially shocked and reluctant to have Rudo spoil her, she eventually relented and allowed him to give her a magnificent gown. The prince's return home was celebrated with a lavish ball, and Josie and Rudo spent the entire night dancing together before finally parting ways.

However, the two of them promised to always keep in touch and eventually travel the world together. Unfortunately, Josie's years at her university and then running Global Imports keeps her fairly busy. Although their busy schedules are rarely in sync, Rudo still finds ways to help Josie where he can. As a traveling business man, he flies around the world looking for new fashions and clothes to export to Global Imports. And while Josie hasn't achieved her dream of exploring the globe yet, she knows that one day she'll travel and see everything the world has to offer. For now, though? Josie is more than happy where she is, providing Gaians with the beautiful clothes from the places that she longs to one day visit.

Fascinating! Even the voices in my head are cheering with joy! Which is kind of a relief, because they're usually telling me to set things on fire. Anyway, that's all we have time for this week, but be sure to keep an eye out for next Friday's EI Report! Let us know which Evolving Item was your favorite in our Weekly EI Poll, and don't forget you can see all these beautiful items and more in La Victoire! See you next time, junior scientists!

14 Adamant Vault, Bunnihilation, and HardheartedEdit

  • Icon announceAnnouncement EI Report: Adamant Vault, Bunnihilation, and Hardhearted - [NPC] Dr. Singh Fri Feb 14, 2014 5:21 pm

Salutations, science fans! Today is February 14th, and you know what that means: a brand new EI Report! ... What? Is something else going on? Honestly I've been so wrapped up in research that I haven't really been paying attention. What's that? Speak up Donny, for crying out loud -- what? It's Valentine's Day? And no one told me?! Oh. Well, now I feel kind of bad that I'm making everyone pull an all-nighter. I mean, not bad enough to cancel it, but you know. A little humbled. Still, scientific progress knows not the meaning of romance! Science is cold, and sterile, and completely and totally awesome. It's my real love, honestly. And hey, we've got something special for you today! Not only are Adamant Vault and Bunnihilation evolving, but we discovered a brand new EI: Hardhearted! Let's take a closer look, shall we?

-

Adamant Vault: There are still more treasures to uncover in the Adamant Vault. You reach a little deeper, discovering two new spectacular pieces of jewelry. Apparently, the actress had collected a few diamond antiques as well: a glittering diamond stomacher and a glowing diamond belt.

Bunnihilation: This bunny cafe is the cutest thing ever! You tie a festive balloon to your wrist as you sit down and wait for a server to take your order. Much to your surprise, an adorable little bunny with a pink apron hops up to your table with a slice of carrot cake. It stares at you with its giant blue eyes practically sparkling as it waits for your approval.

What kind of restaurant allows bunnies to serve food? Still, it does look like a tasty piece of cake... Hesitantly, you take the cake and sample a bite. Delicious! The bunny's nose twitches with glee as it hops off to serve other customers.

Hardhearted: Bored out of your skull, you wander aimlessly around your campus; you've started to feel stagnant and unmotivated, as if you're simply drifting through life with a purpose or reason. Maybe this walk will help clear your head. As you trudge quietly down the path, you notice glint of light reflecting off something from the corner of your eye. Well, at least looking for whatever is causing it could be kind of interesting. After a bit of searching, you find a CD case. Who even listens to CDs anymore? It looks like it's just a normal music CD inside the case...

Fascinating! Who needs candlelit dinners and chocolates when you've got such amazing discoveries to process? Unfortunately that's all the time we have for today, but be sure to visit La Victoire to see more of these glorious items in person! Also, please don't forget to vote in our Weekly EI Poll and let us know what you think! Remember: science is the only love that will never hurt you! Unless you're testing different acids. Goodbye!

As a special bonus to celebrate Bunnihilation's evolution, this little bunny wants to share its carrot cake with you!

21 EI Report: Adamant Vault and HardheartedEdit

  • Icon announceAnnouncement EI Report: Adamant Vault and Hardhearted - [NPC] Dr. Singh Fri Feb 21, 2014 4:55 pm

It's Friday at long last, my scientific sweets! We've been having a wonderfully productive week at the labs thanks to my new, patent pending, motivating methods! I've pioneered a few different ways to get my lab assistants and interns to really give everything their all, although the most effective method so far seems to be playing duckstep music very loudly over the speakers. Oh, they might complain about all the quacking and "wubwubs" but they sure do get their work done fast! Mostly because they want to get home and escape the racket. Still, it's effective and efficient, and any scientist worth his basalt would appreciate both those things! And with such amazing productivity comes equally astounding evolutions. Both Adamant Vault and Hardhearted evolved today, so let's take a look!

-

Adamant Vault: Already practically dripping with diamonds, you pull out three more gorgeous pieces. The famous starlet this jewelry once belonged to would no doubt have to attend a number of movie premieres and award shows; that must have been her clever excuse to add more and more diamonds to her collection. Studying the jewelry you've just discovered, you find that you now possess a scintillating diamond bertha, a pair of brilliant diamond shoe clips, and a huge flashing diamond gem.

Hardhearted: After finishing your daily boring routine at home, you plop into bed and decide to pop in the strange CD you found earlier in the day. Settling back with your headphones on, you tentatively press the "play" button on your CD player. At first the hard beats and aggressive vocals were kind of intimidating -- you nearly turned the album off after only a few seconds -- but after a while it started to grow on you. After listening to a few tracks, you became completely hooked.

Fantastic! Maybe I ought to try playing Hardhearted over the loudspeaker instead of duckstep and see if that encourages my employees to work even harder? Hmm -- I smell a future experiment! Unfortunately that's all the time we have for this week, but be sure to tune in next Friday for your Evolving Item Report! Don't forget to vote in our Weekly EI Poll, and remember that you can see all these items and more in La Victoire! See you all next week!

28 EI Report: Adamant Vault and HardheartedEdit

Ah, Friday at the end of February. What better day could there be for some scientifical experimentationing? Or for making up new words? There simply couldn't be! We've had a wonderful week here at the Evolving Item Labs, testing out all sorts of wild new theories and collating tons of beautiful, beautiful raw data. I tell you, nothing sets my heart aflutter more than seeing columns upon columns of numbers, just waiting for some good old-fashioned statistical analysis. Of course, my first love is and always will be Evolving Items! And we've got a real magnificent showing for you today. Let's take a closer look at Adamant Vault and Hardhearted and get this report on the road!

-

Adamant Vault: It seems that our leading lady managed to become famous enough that she started to get invited to royal events! The jewels you find in the vault this week are from this era, where having a tiara wasn't just a luxury, but also a necessity. It seems that you've found a luminous tiara, a glamorous overdress, a diamond studded wig, and a blazing diamond halo.

Hardhearted: You find yourself totally addicted to this amazing new sound! It inspires you to try changing up your style and cutting your hair -- you even try out some new piercings that you performed yourself! Ouch... You've made some drastic changes, but life has never felt (or looked) this good!

Spectacular! That Adamant Vault might possibly be the shiniest thing I've ever seen! I'm not really a glamor girl, but all those diamonds... Imagine the x-ray lasers I could build with those babies! Unfortunately that's all we have time for this week, but be sure to tune in to next week's report for brand new updates! Don't forget to vote in our Weekly EI Poll, and remember if you want to see any of these evolutions up close they're available now in La Victoire. 'Til next time, science lovers!

Friday, Friday, Friday! The most glorious day of the week! It's true, I read it in a magazine. That's right: I do read things besides scientific journals, you know. In fact, I'm thinking of boycotting several science-based publications. Why? They refuse to accept any of my articles! What, they don't think research on the viscosity of syrup and its effects on the topography of waffles is important? I assure you, in today's breakfast-driven culture, that my research has never been more pertinent or relevant. Ah, but I digress. As much as I enjoy experimenting with the best meal of the day, my true love will always be Evolving Items. And we have such a magnificent report to give today! Hardhearted has revealed more gorgeous new items, and Adamant Vault experiences a stunning final evolution!

-

Adamant Vault: At long last, you seem to have reached the pinnacle of of the actress' collection. These remarkable pieces hail from when she was at the peak of her fame and wealth. She would often throw exclusive parties in her own diamond strewn mansion, all but coating herself in the glittering jewels to host them. In a sea of priceless treasures, these are truly the most precious, splendid ones you've discovered. It seems that you have uncovered some flirty diamond eyelashes, a diamond studded gown, an extravagant diamond skin embellishment, a radiant diamond chandelier, and a pair of resplendent diamond wings. The Adamant Vault is now empty of all its beautiful bounty, but now you can carry on the actress' legacy by wearing all her breathtaking jewelry!

Hardhearted: Your fashion sense grows even wilder as you try on new pants and accessories! As you admire your stylish reflection in the mirror, you overhear a DJ on the radio say that your favorite band is holding a concert in the town you live in. Your heart thuds in your chest with excitement as you realize what you must do. You have to snag tickets for this amazing concert! It's officially your life's greatest priority.

Glorious! Almost as beautiful as syrup sparkling on a pancake. That's all we have for this week, Gaians, but be sure to listen in next Friday for another amazing Evolving Item report! Make sure you vote in our Weekly EI Poll to let us know what you think, and don't forget that you can see all these gorgeous EIs and more in La Victoire. See you next Friday, science lovers!

14 EI Report: Hardhearted and The Cocklebur KingEdit

  • Icon announceAnnouncement EI Report: Hardhearted and The Cocklebur King - [NPC] Dr. Singh Thu Mar 13, 2014 10:13 pm

Fabulous Friday is finally here, Gaians! And not a moment to soon. Honestly, the time I spend between these reports seems to drag slower and slower each week! Makes me wish that time machine I spent so much effort on actually worked. Then I could just fast forward to every Friday, give my amazing report, and hop right back in my machine to head straight to the next Friday! In a perfect world, I suppose. Although I guess it might cause some issues with the timeline... Potential time collapses... Unpredictable parallel universes... But I guess that's the price we all have to pay for convenience, right? Well, no matter. The machine isn't up and running -- yet -- and I've got way more exciting things to talk about! We have another evolution from Hardhearted to look over, and a brand new EI! Allow me to introduce the newly discovered The Cocklebur King!

-

Hardhearted: By some incredible miracle, you've managed to score tickets to the concert of your dreams! Time to dress to impress. Determined to go the extra mile, you restyle your hair and buy some brand new clothes! Staring at yourself in the mirror at the end of the day, in all your punkish finery, you can't help but think to yourself: "Damn! I look good."

The Cocklebur King: Once upon a time, a wild beast fell in love with a human man. The beast was a canid, a maneater, the master of the densest and darkest parts of the forests. It hunted without pity on the edges of the paths that passed through the outskirts, dragging its prey into the tangled thickets of underbrush where they would never be found. Until one day it saw him: a human hunter, strong, with fire in his eyes.

So incredible and it's only just day one! A remarkable find, if I do say so myself. That's all the time we have for this week, but be sure to tune in to next week's Evolving Item Report for all your science and dietary needs! Don't forgot to vote in our Weekly EI Poll for your favorite evolutions this week, and remember you can always see these items up close in La Victoire! Have a great weekend, everyone!

21 EI Report: The Cocklebur King and Hardhearted!Edit

  • Icon announceAnnouncement EI Report: The Cocklebur King and Hardhearted! - [NPC] Dr. Singh Thu Mar 20, 2014 3:35 pm

Oh, frabjuous Friday! Friday is very... nice! I like Fridays! And also lots of ice! ... Oh, sorry, Gaians! I didn't see you there. I was just reciting my latest poem out loud. You see, I enrolled in a creative writing class and I'm finding it to be a bit of a challenge. Why did I enroll? Well, I can't be obsessed with science all the time! I'm trying to expand my horizons. Find a new hobby! Now, if only I had picked one that I'm actually good at. Well, I've certainly got just the thing to cheer me up! We've got some brand new evolutions to look at today and I simply couldn't be more elated! The elephant was sedated! ... I'm not good at being creative. Oh hey! That last part sort of rhymed too. Maybe I'm better than I thought? I'll have to come back to it, though, as these evolutions must simply be seen! This week The Cocklebur King experiences its second stage, and Hardhearted finally reveals its incredible finale!

-

The Cocklebur King: The canid went to the god of the wilds and begged her to grant a wish: make it human, in a shape that would be most pleasing to the man. She agreed to the request, but warned that a being cannot truly change its nature. The canid, now a handsome man, tracked the bright eyed human, named Harte, to a nearby village. He charmed him, seduced him, and eventually they were married.

Hardhearted: The big day is finally here! The concert begins with an edgy chord plucked from an unseen guitar. The sound sweeps over you, sending an electric chill up your spine, and your heart thumps wildly with excitement as your idol takes to the stage! You scream and shout over the pumping music, cheering loudly from your place right by the stage. Before you could even think of reacting the singer grabs you up to the stage to sing a few lines with them! At the end of the show, you stammer your way through requesting an autograph and praise the band for changing your world. The singer smiles at you, handing back a signed portrait, and encourages you to stay true to what you love to do and never put boundaries on what you want to be. Have a hard heart and keep it strong. As soon as you returned home you framed that precious autograph. And now, whenever you feel aimless or confused, you look at the picture and remember the singer's words of encouragement for your life moving forward. You just need to have a hard heart.

My goodness! It's just poetry in motion! I'm standing up and applauding! What's the word for that again? Ovulation? No, no, that's not it... Ovation! Yes. See, I'm getting better at this "thinking of words" thing already. 28 EI Report: The Cocklebur King and the new M's SketchbookEdit

Friday, Friday, Friday! The most splendiferous day of the week! Why? Because you get a visit from me, of course! Let's see, what happened this week in the wonderful world of science... Well. I got Donny the Intern to clean the microwave, mostly by using some impressive behavioral conditioning. That's a pretty amazing accomplishment! Oh, and I totally synthesized a new gas that smells exactly like popcorn jellybeans! I can think of at least a billion different market applications for that. But, most importantly, it's been another fabulous week from Evolving Item science! The Cocklebur King has another incredible evolution to study, and we've discovered a brand new EI called M's Sketchbook! Let's take a closer look, shall we?

-

The Cocklebur King: They lived together for three years, happily, except that the canid could not shake off the god's warning. One night, the maneater had a dream, of chasing prey through the forest. When he woke he found himself digging his teeth into his husband's shoulder, drawing blood. Horrified, he pulled back, and unable to bear the thought of what he had nearly done, had WANTED to do, he fled from the village and into the forest. Surrounded by the trees and the dark, the taste of iron in his teeth, he surrendered his shape and became a wild thing again.

M's Sketchbook: It was just another day. You stop at your usual taxicab stand only to find someone already there. She’s wearing an awful lot of cream and brown, but nothing about her really strikes you. You keep your distance as she speaks rapidly into an earpiece, her finger pointing to an open book in one hand while clasping a key in the other. “What’s wrong with earmuffs?” Her voice retained its disbelief as she continued, “I happen to like earmuffs.” Somehow you feel bad for listening in. Even more so when you peeked over her shoulder to catch a glimpse of said earmuffs. Then again, you didn’t have anything better to do. Plus, she didn’t appear to notice.

Incredible! And what's this? It seems like I've found a preview of some future evolutions from M's Sketchbook... How curious!

-

Unfortunately that's all the time we have for this week, but I can already tell we've got some exciting evolutions ahead of us! Be sure to check out these gorgeous EIs in La Victoire when you have the chance, and don't forgot to vote in our Weekly EI Poll. See you next Friday, Gaians!

Good Friday, science lovers! Alas, this was a slower week than usual for academic progress. I'm afraid I accidentally released a potent, gaseous sleep drug into our air vents. Normally it's used to help sedate some of the more... troublesome experiments we have lurking in the dark halls of the Evolving Item Labs, but somebody -- I won't say who, but it rhymes with "Bonny" and starts with a D -- switched my vials! I'm still trying to find my Magic Productivity Serum, by the way. Hmph. Well, even if I didn't get as much work done as I might have liked, our Evolving Items are still as incredibly engaging as ever! We have amazing evolutions from The Cocklebur King and M's Sketchbook, so let's take a look!

-

The Cocklebur King: Harte was terrified, but he still chased his husband into the forest. He tracked him even when the canid's human form faded, and the only signs were cracked twigs and claw marks. The man soon realized he was not likely to find his lover, and even if he did, the man he loved was now a fearsome creature without remorse, and might devour him more quickly than he remembered him.

So he bowed his head and begged the god of the wilds for help. He begged her to bring his husband back to him.

M's Sketchbook: “No, no. I’m keeping the glasses.” Leaning to see the sketches of what she’s talking about, you can faintly hear the muffled static of the person on the other end, although the conversation remained one-sided. “They are staying. That’s final, I won’t take them out. Yeah, the sweater’s cute, isn’t it? Haha, I have a huge thing for oversized sweaters.” Raising your brow at that statement, you smirk at the sweater she wore. It's so big it completely dwarfs her already petite size, the sleeves covering well beyond her own arms. “’Heh.” At your laugh, she turns her head, a look of suspicion on her face. “Dude, there’s some creeper behind me. No, I don’t know when they sneaked up. Ewh. I don’t know, they’re laughing to themself.” Not so subtly, she moves a few inches away from you. Ouch, that actually hurt...

Happy Friday, junior scientists! Are you all as excited as I am for this week's report? I mean, as much as I dabble in the Megalomaniacal Sciences, I always find myself returning back to my love for Evolving Items. It'd obivously be great to create some sort of giant mechanical monstrosity that levels cities at my command, but will it really make me feel as fulfilled as seeing an Evolving Item reach its stunning finale? Well, I guess I won't know for another few years -- my robot is still in the prototyping stage. That said, we've got some really wonderful evolutions to study tonight! Let's take a closer look at The Cocklebur King and M's Sketchbook, shall we?

-

The Cocklebur King: The god of the wilds would not normally come to man, but she came to him, if only because she was curious. She said it would not work, for she had changed the beast into a man once, and it proved it could not change its nature. Harte paused, and then requested that she instead turn him into a beast. He explained that he was not just a hunter, but also a soldier, a killer of men -- perhaps his nature was not so different from the beast's after all. The god of the wilds refused. Harte persisted that the canid had told him what he was when they met, and had never lied or hidden it from him. The canid had even shared his secret name, the names that all beasts of the old woods guarded from humans. That was why Harte loved him above all others. He simply could never love another.

M's Sketchbook: Teetering on your heels, you take a step closer while she’s busy talking. “They’re not random! I just doodle what I like, and I like these. Accessories are good. There’s never enough of them anyway.” Okay, so far so good. She doesn't seem to notice your approach, allowing you to see these ‘random accessories’. Oh, you can see why the other party calls them random. A hat, some pin, and gloves? “Leave me alone!” Her outburst scares you. Staggering away, you soon realize she’s not talking to you. Whew. “It’s similar 'cause I want it to be versatile. I mean, it's hard to wear those cute gloves in every outfit when there’s a huge balloon stuck to the back. Duh.”

Unfortunately that's all the time we have for this week, but be sure to check out these gorgeous EIs in La Victoire when you have the chance! And don't forgot to vote in our Weekly EI Poll for your favorite EI and make your opinions known. See you next Friday, Gaians!

18 EI Report: M's Sketchbook, Bunnihilation & Cocklebur KingEdit

  • Icon announceAnnouncement EI Report: M's Sketchbook, Bunnihilation & Cocklebur King - [NPC] Dr. Singh Fri Apr 18, 2014 3:14 pm

It's the end of the work week, Gaians, and you know what that means: vacation! That's right, I'm planning to head down to a pleasant little island managed by a gentleman by the name of... Dr. Moreau, I believe? I'm sure it'll be lovely. He's a doctor after all, and I've only heard marvelous things about him. Besides, it'll be nice to spend some time with a fellow scientist! We'll have tons to talk about. Anyway, Friday also brings with it more exciting evolutions from our intriguing Evolving Items! It looks like M's Sketchbook and Bunnihilation both evolved this week, and The Cocklebur King has finally achieved the pinnacle of its evolution!

-

M's Sketchbook: “Of course you love it, you’re not the one torturing yourself with all the curls.” She sighs deeply as her shoulders slouch. Curious as to what is dampening her mood, you find doodles of a silhouette with long curly hair before she flips to a top and bag. “Haha, I don’t know why I keep doing this either. Long hair is nice and all, but so annoying. I actually like short hair more. Oh no, already covered that. Ufufu, gotta love Agape.” What’s an agape? Before you can think on it, the most ridiculous thing came out of her mouth. “It’s a bookbag. A book bag. Get it?! Cause it’s literally a book in the shape of a bag!” And then she erupts into laughter. Girl, that was the lamest pun ever.

Bunnihilation: Easter is finally here, and it seems like you've stumbled on to something seasonally adorable! You've found a little chocolate bunny nestled in a basket full of flowers, with a matching cute yellow hairbow!

The Cocklebur King: The god of the wilds replied, "And how do you know you will still love him as an animal?" Harte replied confidently, "The canid, the maneater, the Cocklebur King, despite having been a wild thing without remorse, was able to love me with his animal heart. So maybe I would love him with mine." The god at last acquiesced, and made him a canid as well. The new animal quickly vanished into the forest, and she let it go, and thought not of it again, as gods are apt to do. Nature would decide the end of the story, and be the only witness as well, in the dense, dark underbrush of the wilderness.

Two new evolutions and an incredible finale! My, what an exciting day for scientific discoveries. Unfortunately that's all the time we have for this week, but be sure to check out these gorgeous EIs in La Victoire when you have the chance! And don't forgot to vote in our Weekly EI Poll for your favorite EI and make your opinions known. See you next Friday, Gaians!

As an added bonus to The Cocklebur King's dramatic finale, we've also included this gorgeous image for you all!

25 EI Report: M's Sketcbhook, and introducing Rookie's Pursuit!Edit

  • Icon announceAnnouncement EI Report: M's Sketcbhook, and introducing Rookie's Pursuit! - [NPC] Dr. Singh Fri Apr 25, 2014 3:49 pm

Friday, Friday! You gotta get your science on when it's Friday! I have so many exciting evolutions to show you today that I feel like I might burst with joy! I feel like my research has never been more pertinent, Gaians. Especially since I've recently partnered up with Rina -- you know, the loud girl with all the flowers and pies -- to create a brand new Evolving Item based on a popular Monthly Collectible. Fusion, Gaians! It's totally possible! Enough stalling. Let's take a look at M's Sketchbook and witness the debut of Rookie's Pursuit!

-

M's Sketchbook: Guilt actually begins to make you sweat as you sneak another step closer. Tip toeing enough to see a lacy sketch of a headband, you eye the girl warily. Luckily, she continues to ignore your existence. “They’re just pretty, that’s why. Oh. Yeah, well, not everyone likes hime bangs, so that’s why the bangs are there. Oh, the hairpins? It’s not a glitch. It’s supposed to work like that. I’m not sure if it’ll be a successful pose, but yeah, decided to go ahead and make it anyway. Nah, I’m pretty sure it’s okay to do. Maybe. If not, then I dunno. I’m sure people won’t actually get it until way later anyway.” The content of her conversation becomes more and more cryptic. In fact, you have no idea what she’s talking about. From the doodle on her sketchbook, it looks like just a regular hairclip with a ton of notes scribbled on the side. Sadly, the words are impossible to make out, seeing how they resemble chicken scratch.

Rookie's Pursuit: "Hey, Rookie! You got some mail!"

Minerva glanced up as one of her associates tossed a letter on to her small, cramped desk. She wished people would stop calling her a rookie. Being known in the office as a “Rookie Detective” made people even less likely to take her seriously. Probably didn’t help that she still hadn’t uncovered any leads in the Striking Thief case, despite the fact that she had been working on it for months now. Exhaling an exasperated sigh, Minerva reached for the letter and turned it over slowly in her hands. No return address, and she didn’t recognize the handwriting. Hardly looked like any letter she’d ever seen before, either. Who the heck sent out black envelopes tied with blue ribbons? Brow furrowing, Minerva warily sniffed at the letter. Didn’t smell strange, at least.

Curiosity finally overcame her natural suspicions, and Minerva gingerly worked the seal of the envelope open. A small card flittered delicately into her lap as the envelope fell open; it was about the size of a playing card, entirely white save for a black emblem she didn’t recognize. She stared at it for a moment, puzzled, before she directed her gaze back to the letter itself. Written in a tidy, flowing script were the following words:

"The Spellbound Sapphire necklace, Minauderie Manor, at the masquerade ball four moons from tonight."

Minerva knew then exactly who the letter was from. Tightening her jaw, she reached for her bag and stuffed both the letter and the card inside. Did the Thief mean to taunt her? Seething, Minerva stomped past her colleagues, determined to catch the elusive criminal once and for all. Even if it meant wearing a gown and heels for a night…

“Where are you going?” called one gumshoe as she stormed past.

“The masquerade ball!”

The door slammed behind her as the other detectives shared a befuddled look, the office momentarily lapsed into silence.

“Pfft. Yeah, right. She’ll totally fit in.” scoffed one.

After a good laugh the senior detectives returned to their work, happy to let the rookie distract herself on her wild goose chase.

Ooh! I have chills! Is anyone else as intrigued as I am? Who is the mysterious person M is talking to? Why does M seem so obstinate? And will Minerva be able to master the art of dancing in heels? Only one way to find out, Gaians! Stay tuned for next Friday's report, and be sure to vote in our Weekly EI Poll to make your opinions known! You can check out all these great EIs and more in La Victoire. Have a good weekend, everyone!

02 EI Report: Rookie's Pursuit, and M's Sketchbook's finaleEdit

  • Icon announceAnnouncement EI Report: Rookie's Pursuit, and M's Sketchbook's finale! - [NPC] Dr. Singh Fri May 02, 2014 12:03 pm

Happy Friday, Gaians! I'm so excited to get this EI Report going that I'm not even going to bother with my usual patter. Instead I'll leave you a series of cryptic hints as to what I've been up to lately! Robot, super hero, zombie, raspberry jam, foot massage. Figure it out! Now let's get on with the really interesting stuff. Not only do we have another incredible evolution from Rookie's Pursuit, but M's Sketchbook has finished evolving and has a gorgeous finale for us to study!

-

M's Sketchbook: “Shush, they’re braids. It’s not the same. Nah, don’t wanna do a face mod. I still don’t think I’m particularly great at eyes or lips, let alone facial expressions.” Her laugh lacks conviction, piquing your interest as you tilt more to get a better glimpse. Unfortunately, glimpses are all you are able to see until she stops moving her hand. “It’s a dress. There are two layers! What’s wrong with my legs? So what if it’s plain? Shush, I put shorts in this one. GTFO, I like plain. No you’re plain!” Super mature conversation, guys. You can’t help but laugh, and too late do you realize your mistake.

Her head turns sharply, pinning you with a stunned, exasperated, and then indignant expression. “Oh my gawd, that creeper was still here and totally listening in on our convo. Gawd, I feel so violated. Eww.” Her expression darkens as she takes a step closer. Instinct makes you move back, yet your mind tells you it’s ridiculous to be scared of such a tiny girl. Her voice manages to pierce through your unfounded terror. “Did you see? You saw, didn’t you?!” Saw what? Your mind reels for an answer. You soon realize she means the content in her book. Slowly, you nod with trepidation. No sooner than you give your answer does a swift pain knock you to your knees. She just whacked you across your head! “Rude much? You’re lucky I don’t kick you in the-- adslkdfjlaksfd--!!” She streams off into a string of colorful choice words before taking a breath to calm herself just as a taxi pulls up. “I hope a pigeon poops on you.” The taxi door slams shut and speeds off soon after.

Well, that had gone over well. You rub the back of your head, nursing both the physical and emotional hurt dealt by a single girl. And of course, that would be the precise moment you realize who she is.

Rookie's Pursuit: Inhale. Exhale. Minerva inwardly steeled herself as she raised a hand to bang on the massive wooden doors barricading Minauderie Manor from the outside rabble. A butler in a pressed suit swung the door open, staring down the bridge of his nose at the detective now dirtying his doorstep. He sighed, as if her mere existence was a bother, before quietly stepping to the side to allow her in.

“His lordship has been expecting you. Please, this way.”

Her conversation with Lord Minauderie was brief. The Spellbound Sapphire necklace had to be moved, of course. Minerva and the lord decided to move it to a separate safe, and instead a worthless decoy was nestled into its display case -- hopefully it’d be enough to fool the Striking Thief. An hour of strategizing later and Minerva left the manor, confident that she had done everything in her power to secure the necklace. Lord Minauderie assured her tirelessly that he would have guards patrolling every square inch of the estate during the masquerade itself, and with the Spellbound Sapphire safely secreted away and radio communications that would alert her the moment anything went awry… Well, what was there to be afraid of?

Besides the masquerade itself.

Minerva’s nose wrinkled with distaste as she sifted through her sister’s closet, passing over gown after gown as Juno tapped her foot impatiently behind her.

“Oh my god. Minerva. Just pick something!”

Mineva mentally shifted another dress over to her “no” pile as she picked her way deeper into the closet. “Do you have anything less… Frilly? Something I could maybe run in?”

Juno rolled her eyes. “Wouldn’t you rather wear something you could dance in?” she asked, petulant. Eventually Juno elbowed her way past Minerva, shoving her back as she reached for a gown and thrusting it at her younger sister. “Here! This is fine, okay? You’ll look great in it.”

Minerva pursed her lips to the side, visibly uncomfortable. The idea of having to attend a ball full of hoity-toity types wasn’t sitting well with her, even after she had spent the last three days preparing. “It’s just so… Poofy.” she observed.

Juno only handed her sister a matching mask in response. “You’ll be fine. Just… I don’t know. Smile and giggle a lot.” Juno suggested flippantly.

Suddenly Minerva wasn’t so sure if she could do this or not. But she nodded, gingerly holding the mask up to her face. Well… At least that fit.

Amazing! I'll be sad to see M's Sketchbook go, but what a ride! Stay tuned for next Friday's report, and be sure to vote in our Weekly EI Poll to make your opinions known! You can check out all these great EIs and more in La Victoire. Have a good weekend, everyone!

09 EI Report: Rookie's Pursuit & introducing The Prince's RoseEdit

  • Icon announceAnnouncement EI Report: Rookie's Pursuit & introducing The Prince's Rose - [NPC] Dr. Singh Fri May 09, 2014 6:44 pm

Hope you're ready for a scientific bonanza of goodness, Gaians! After all, what is Friday for if not for celebrating my amazing achievements in Evolving Item research? And I've got some splendid results to reveal today! Not only has Rookie's Pursuit achieved its next stage of evolution, but we're also unveiling a brand new EI: The Prince's Rose! Let's take a closer look, shall we?

-

The Prince's Rose: There once was a young maiden who lived in a small village deep in an ancient forest. One day she was out gathering wood when she came upon a path unknown to her. The path was shrouded in a foreboding shadow, even though it was not yet past midday and the sky overhead was bright and clear. But something glittered in that strange darkness, like a star in the night sky, and she was drawn to it. The girl started down the path, traveling deeper and deeper into woods until she came upon an old, broken sword planted into the ground. From the sword grew the most beautiful white roses she'd ever seen, with dew clinging to the petals that sparkled like fragile diamonds. Unable to resist, she plucked a blossom and set it upon her bosom. But the rose turned black as soon as it touched her skin, and silver thorns grew and clung to her. With it came a voice, "This rose is mine, and now, so are you."

Rookie's Pursuit: Minerva had never felt more out of place in her entire life. She fidgeted uncomfortably where she stood, her feet already starting to pinch in their “oh so fashionable” oxfords. How had she allowed Juno to talk her into this? Her sister had practically leapt at the opportunity to “glitz” Minerva up -- her words, not the detective’s. Curlers, lipgloss, rouge; hours spent in a chair getting makeup applied to her face, and for what? She was wearing a mask for crying out loud, so it wasn’t like anyone could see. Besides, Minerva wasn’t here to impress anyone. She had a job to do, plain and simple. All of her discomfort was just making her even more determined to collar the Striking Thief once and for all. At least it was good for something.

Sighing irately, Minerva attempted to inconspicuously hike her heavy gown back into place. Masked couples swirled and waltzed in front of her in a churning sea of shimmering fabrics and glittering jewels as the band played on, song after song. The detective scowled, focusing instead on scanning the room for the hundredth time as radio static buzzed quietly in her ear between the occasional lines of idle police chatter, like some sort of irritating insect. Still no sign of him yet, apparently. But Minerva knew he would come. The thief seemed to enjoy two things more than anything else in the world: stealing gems from the wealthy elite, and humiliating Minerva at every turn. No, he wouldn’t miss an opportunity like this -- particularly not when he invited her personally to attend.

Her thoughts were interrupted by a spattering of polite applause as the band finished their song. It wasn't long, however, before the band struck up another tune. Minerva simply couldn’t take much more of this. She had to do something to distract herself from how awkward she felt. Maybe patrol the perimeter of the ballroom, keep an eye out for anything suspicious. It’d help keep her focused, anyway. Her mind made up, the detective began to edge away from the wall she’d been attempting to innocuously lean against when she felt a light tap on her shoulder.

“May I have this dance?”

Minerva turned around slowly, grimacing at the man currently offering her his gloved hand. Ugh. Could this thief just show up already!?

Such fascinating developments! Unfortunately that's all the time I have this week, but be sure to tune in next week for our next Evolving Item Report! 16 EI Report: The Prince's Rose and Rookie's PursuitEdit

  • Icon announceAnnouncement EI Report: The Prince's Rose and Rookie's Pursuit - [NPC] Dr. Singh Fri May 16, 2014 5:28 pm

It's Friday, and you know what that means: it's time for the EI Report! Does everyone have on their protective goggles? No? Just me? Well, I'm sure you'll be fine. ... Probably. It looks like we've got evolutions from The Prince's Rose and Rookie's Pursuit to cover today, so let's dive right into today's report!

-

The Prince's Rose: "Please," the girl called out to the shadows, "I am but a maiden of modest means, I meant no trespass."

A nebulous form shifted within the murky darkness, but no matter how the girl strained her eyes she simply couldn’t make its shape out. “Your intent is meaningless. You tried to steal my roses -- now, you are mine.” Such a terrible voice from the shadows; guttural and cruel, almost a growl. Terror made her blood grow cold as the figure took a step forward, just near enough that she could tell now it was a silhouette of a man. Although his face was obscured, what little light there was played off the medallions pinned to his silken vest.

“Come. I will take you home.” the shadowy figured ordered, his tone clipped and almost perfunctory. His eyes briefly shone in the darkness, otherworldly and cold, and before the girl could protest a towering wall of thorns grew up around her. Surrounded practically on all sides by the grasping thorns, she had no choice but to go down the only path open to her: forward, further into the dark forest. Summoning what little courage she had left, the girl began to make her way down the path. Beautiful, snowy white rose blossoms bloomed around her feet as she walked, only to blacken and wither a few seconds later. Through the thatch of thorns she could make out a land pockmarked and scarred, as if a great battle had once taken place there.

Eventually she came upon a massive castle, practically a fortress, with the thorns leading her directly to its giant doors. Her breath caught in her throat as the doors ominously began to swing open, its hinges creaking with rust and strain.

“Welcome to your new home, princess.” the voice sneered, practically in her ear, and she was given a forceful shove forward. The door slammed shut behind her and all was plunged into darkness.

Rookie's Pursuit: Minerva stared at the man’s hand as if she half-expected it to spontaneously catch fire, taking an uneasy step back in her oxfords. “I don’t -- “

“Of course you do.” the man interrupted, an easy grin spreading across his face. He inclined his head towards the dance floor, motioning at Minerva to follow with two fingers. “Come on. Let’s dance.”

Minerva remained rooted where she was, defiant, as the stranger calmly eased his way between couples to stand in the middle of the dance floor. He turned to stare at the detective expectantly, arms crossed in front of his chest as he waited. And waited. Minerva glared daggers at him but he still remained in the middle of that floor, smiling at her, patient as a saint. She could feel people starting to stare, and in that moment Minerva wanted nothing more than to evaporate into a mist, or simply disappear where she stood -- instead she relented, awkwardly picking her way through the crowd towards the man.

So much for remaining inconspicuous. It was either dance with him or stick out even more -- and Minerva simply couldn’t afford that.

The masked man took hold of Minerva’s hand, settling it lightly on his shoulder, before clasping her free hand in his. Their fingers laced together as he placed his hand on her waist and began his steps, clearly more experienced at this whole “ballroom dancing” thing than the detective was. Minerva miserably shuffled along in some sort of embarrassing pantomime of an actual waltz.

“You’re a terrible dancer.” her partner noted, his tone all too polite for the insult.

“Shut up.” Minerva snapped in reply. Even so, she could still feel a heated blush coloring her cheeks as she attempted to move a little more gracefully.

His grin hadn’t even faded slightly. “I’m August. August Milenario.”

“That’s nice.” Minerva replied absently. She was too busy trying not to squash August’s toes to manage anything else. Dear god, what she wouldn’t give for an excuse to leave right now. Anything. Anyone. Where was that stupid, awful thief when you needed him? Rather than obsessing about how awkward and uncomfortable she felt, Minerva instead focused her attention on scanning the room. At least she could try to work while she was being forced to dance.

Then, suddenly, her perspective changed. August dipped her low with a flourish as the song ended, and Minerva frantically gripped the front of his vest, terrified she was going to crash into the floor.

“I’m not going to drop you.” he murmured, reassuring. His smile was a little kinder now, less mocking. Minerva felt her breath hitch in her throat slightly as she stared upwards, their eyes finally meeting. His eyes were so… Blue. An impossibly striking shade, bright against the black of his mask. For a moment Minerva couldn’t even think of anything to say.

Realizing that she had been staring, Minerva’s mind snapped into a panicked overdrive. She pushed at his chest and August straightened, tugging Minerva up with him. The man respectfully took a step back as Minerva rearranged her skirt, her eyes now fixed anywhere but on his handsome face. “Uh… You’ll have to excuse me. I need some air.” she mumbled, starting to make her way towards the balcony -- and sweet, sweet freedom.

There was a genuine wrinkle of concern around August’s mouth as he followed her. “Are you all right? Here, let me accompany you.”

Minerva rolled her eyes, about to protest, but he’d already opened the door for her. “What a gentleman.” she muttered under her breath, voice practically oozing sarcasm.

23 EI Report: The Prince's Rose and Rookie's PursuitEdit

  • Icon announceAnnouncement EI Report: The Prince's Rose and Rookie's Pursuit - [NPC] Dr. Singh Fri May 23, 2014 5:43 pm

Happy Friday, science fans! I've got some important research currently heating up in the microwave that I desperately need to attend to, so I'll be brief! Let's take a look at the new stunning evolutions from The Prince's Rose and Rookie's Pursuit!

-

The Prince's Rose: Plink. Plink. Plink.

The sound of the rain striking against the only window in her dank tower was her sole source of comfort. Here, trapped in the dark, cold and frightened… She’d never felt more alone, more abandoned. What was to happen to her? Was she to be killed? Or was she simply to remain a prisoner forever, locked and forgotten in this terrible tower? It was too overwhelming to think about. Instead she simply sat on the hard bench provided to her, numb from the inside, half-listening as the drops pattered softly against the windowpane. She could feel tears starting to well up, a few spilling down her cheeks before she angrily brushed them away. She might have been a prisoner, but there was no sense in crying. She wouldn’t let that monster see her cry.

Her head snapped up as the sound of footsteps padding against the soggy stones caught her ear. Through a barred opening in the door she could see a pair of frigid blue eyes staring at her, the rest of his face shrouded in shadow. “You will come to dinner.” he ordered, the iciness of his voice giving her chills. She shivered without thinking, wiping away another unbidden tear.

“Why?” she asked, quiet.

“Because I command you to.”

In a soft swish of silks the prince was gone, his cold blue gaze no long boring into her. The door gave an aching creak, slowly shuddering open. As the rain began to pound harder against her window, she pushed herself off the bench and stumbled towards the opening, her legs feeling unsteady. Candles alight with flame lined one side of the hallway, flickering in the damp, while the other side remained unilluminated. Figuring she ought to stay within the light, the girl slowly began to make her way past the candles. Her path led her through a fair part of the castle; it was full of fine furniture, ornate rugs, paintings and breathtaking tapestries. Beautiful and opulent, but completely empty. Where were all the servants? The lords and ladies? She wandered through the barren corridors, amazed and frightened all at once, until she finally came upon the dining hall.

The room was giant, with a high, arching ceiling painted over with a scene of a heroic battle. On the table was a feast that could have easily fed forty or more -- but the table was empty of guests, save for a shadow seated at the head of it. His face may have been obscured by the dark, but she would recognize those glinting blue eyes anywhere. Wordlessly, the girl sat in the only chair provided to her, her eyes raising to peer at the stuffed animal heads mounted on the wall. The candlelight danced within their glassy eyes, their dead stare almost mocking. She shifted uncomfortably in her chair as the silence dragged on, lowering her gaze down to her lap.

“Do you know much about battle?” the prince finally asked, shattering the quiet.

“No.” she replied.

“I know everything about battle.” Was his voice almost smug? “We fought a great war here. It was pure chaos. Thousands upon thousands died violent, glorious deaths.”

Her appetite was fading fast.

The shadow shifted in his chair, fingers drumming almost absently against the arm rest. “I commanded the troops, of course. They called me a terror on the battlefield. Until that witch…” He trailed off, his nails digging into the fine wood of his chair. “She cursed me. Me! And now I’m trapped here, stuck in this miserable castle until I find ‘love’.” His icy gaze returned to her, eyes narrowing pointedly. “So I’m sure you could imagine how… fortuitous it was to find you stealing my roses.”

“I wasn’t -- “

The prince cut her off with a sharp gesture. She could feel her heart leap into her throat as he rose, palms slamming against the table as the light played off the silver finery of his cape. The maiden shrank back in her chair, terrified, as the monster began to lean forward. She screwed her eyes shut tight, too frightened to even look at his inhuman visage, because what lurked in the shadows couldn’t be half as frightening as the real thing, simply couldn’t, and he was going to devour her whole --

But there was nothing. Nothing save silence. Her eyes slowly opened, heart fluttering in her breast, as she stared at the callous prince. No monster stood before her, but rather a man. Tall, with sharp features and a cutting blue gaze, his pale blond hair artfully coiffed. Her captor was… Beautiful. But the chill of his eyes upon her made her blood run cold as his lips twisted into a cruel smirk.

“Now love me.”

Rookie's Pursuit: The cool breeze brought with it a small sense of relief as Minerva stepped outside. She sighed softly as she wobbled towards the balcony railing, her feet practically screaming with discomfort from the damned heels. Resting her elbows upon the rail, Minerva did her very best to keep from frowning disapprovingly as August moved to stand beside her. She didn’t really succeed.

“Nice night,” he commented, apparently immune to her scowl. His breath steamed in the crisp air as he spoke, blue eyes scanning the city lights scattered along the horizon.

Minerva gave only the tiniest nod of acknowledgment as she shifted a few inches over, attempting to put some distance between her and August. She surreptitiously cupped a hand to her ear, realizing there was a new burst of chatter on the radio. Her heart skipped a beat, thinking the patrols may have spotted the Striking Thief -- but apparently not. They were discussing what to order for dinner. The ball was nearly over and there was nothing, not one sighting. All this effort, all this time wasted, all this silly dressing up, feeling humiliated...

“Sounds like the band might be finishing up. If you’re feeling well enough, maybe we could head back inside and -- “

Hand tightening on the rail, Minerva suddenly wheeled on August, eyes narrowing with indignation. “Look, I get it. You think you’re charming. Could you maybe go bother someone else? I’m sure there are plenty of ladies inside who would be a lot more receptive to your advances.”

August didn’t so much as bat an eyelash. A haphazard grin spread slowly across his face as he turned his body towards her, an eyebrow raised. “It’s a party, you know. You’re allowed to have a little fun.” he noted.

“I’m busy.” Minerva replied, her tone clipped.

August took a moment, measuring her words, before nodding slowly. He pushed away from the railing and turned to head back towards the ball. Minerva exhaled a sigh of relief, slumping on to the metal railing as he finally left, when she suddenly sensed someone standing behind her. Her spine snapped straight as she realized August had snuck up behind her, his steps as quiet as a cat’s.

“At the very least, to commemorate our first meeting; a parting gift.” he murmured, his voice suddenly causing an electric spark run up Minerva's spine. Something cold and impossibly heavy was draped around her throat, and Minerva spun around in a swirl of silk and ruffles, realizing in that exact instant what a complete and utter fool she had been until just now.

30 EI Report: The Prince's Rose and Rookie's PursuitEdit

  • Icon announceAnnouncement EI Report: The Prince's Rose and Rookie's Pursuit - [NPC] Dr. Singh Fri May 30, 2014 8:19 pm

Friday at long last, everyone, and we've got some incredible science to explore tonight! Not only has The Prince's Rose evolved once more, but it's time for Rookie's Pursuit extravagant finale!

-

The Prince's Rose: “Now love me.”

His words rang in her ears, clear as a carillon, but she couldn’t bring herself to comprehend them. Instead she shifted uncomfortably in her chair, pinned in place by the prince’s piercing, expectant gaze. His expression hardened as the silence stretched on, his mouth pressing into a thin, pale line of withering disapproval.

“Peasant.” he spat finally. The word practically dripped with contempt. “That’s what you are, aren’t you? Look at those filthy rags.”

The maiden lowered her gaze to her lap, awkwardly smoothing her dress down over her knees. She came from a family of humble means, unable to even dream of affording the finery the prince was clearly so accustomed to. Although she would never call what she wore rags, it was just simple linen: functional and without ornament, and mended a few times over with patches of mismatched fabric. Rather than say anything, she only nodded her head once, unable to meet the prince’s judgmental stare.

His lip twisted upwards into a derisive sneer as the prince lowered himself back into his seat, settling back comfortably into the opulent cushions of his throne. “To think I nearly supped with a peasant,” he sighed, mocking. “How embarrassing for us both. I think I’ve lost my appetite. Return to your tower, girl. A pathetic urchin like you can do little more than turn my stomach.” With a dismissive wave of his hand the entire dining hall plunged into a dreary darkness, candles lighting to show her the way back out.

At least he had done her that courtesy.

The girl remained seated where she was for a moment, unsure if the prince still lurked in the darkness. But the flickering candle light showed no silhouette in his chair, and eventually she rose to her feet and began the long, winding path back to her tower. The door slammed shut behind her as she wearily laid down on her bed, her mind reeling from the day’s events. Despite the fact that she was beyond exhausted sleep would simply not come. She remained awake for hours, tossing and turning, until finally she managed to nod off. Strange sounds filtered through her mind as she dozed: metal crashing against metal, agonized screams, inhuman moans and gurgles.

Morning finally came. She’d managed a few fitful hours of sleep, and in that time the prince had apparently prepared a present for her: a pair of elegant sleeves, crafted from fine, flowing cloth. She marveled at them for a moment, stunned, before realizing a pair of cold eyes were peering at her through the barred window on the door.

“You will wear them to dinner tonight.” the prince hissed, cryptic, before disappearing.

And so her life fell into a bizarre rhythm. She’d manage a few hours of sleep and awaken to find a new gift: the sleeves, a fitted corset, a dress made of expensive silk. She’d be ignored until evening, when the door would suddenly swing open and the candles would show her the way, and she’d fumble into her new finery, the whispery touch of silk unfamiliar on her skin, and join the prince for dinner. There they would eat in a stilted silence, his icy gaze always on her, until he finally spoke.

“Now love me.”

But every time she couldn’t manage a response. Her silence inevitably led to a cutting remark from the prince followed by her prompt dismissal, and she would return to her tower to repeat it all over again the next day.

But not tonight.

The candles, as always, showed her the way back to her room, but she chose to ignore them. Instead she turned down a hallway she’d never explored before, running as fast as her legs could carry her. She didn’t care if the prince caught her, or his likely fury -- she had to get out of there. She at least had to try. Breathless, she managed to find her way back to the massive front doors, leaning all her weight against them to force them open. They slowly began to swing with a creaking groan, and a cold blast of air hit her in the face as she managed to escape the castle.

Only the ruined field, pockmarked by battle, remained between her and the forest. No time to think. She ran, panting and exhausted, she ran and ran and ran and ran, until she felt a sudden tug on the hem of her new dress. Crashing to a halt, her heart thrumming her chest, her eyes darted down to see a ghostly, disfigured man clutching at the cloth.

“Please,” he begged, his voice barely above a whisper, “please, make it end. All this pain… Please…”

Biting back a scream, the maiden jerked away from the monster’s grasp and stumbled back a few steps, only to feel a dozen more hands dig into her dress, her sleeves. A thousand screaming voices, all pleading for their suffering to cease, filled her ears. Unable to run, her limbs leaden with sheer terror, an ethereal apparition wielding a great blade suddenly appeared before her.

“The bloodshed must end.” it hissed, raising the sword high. She couldn't even manage a shriek before the ghost swung the blade down in a smooth arc.

Rookie's Pursuit: Gone. He was gone. Minerva cursed at herself for freezing up when it mattered the most. She felt her heart leap into her throat as she scrambled away from the balcony, her eyes darting around as she desperately searched for something, anything, to follow. There, amongst the swirling dancers: a flash of a silver-trimmed cloak, a head of black hair messily slicked back into some semblance of order, then gone again. Gathering her skirts, Minerva dashed her way back into the ballroom, a hand lifting to cup against her ear as she began to press her way through the crowd.

“I saw him – yes, I have a visual! Suspect is fleeing towards the entrance. I’m pursuing on foot – he’s there, right there, do we have someone by the entrance? No, the other entrance, the west entrance – “

Practically in a panicked frenzy, Minerva made her way to the opposite end of the dance floor just as the band finished their final song. The ballroom audience burst into applause as the detective realized she had completely lost sight of the Striking Thief. He’d disappeared again; slipped right through her fingers like oil. Her heart all but shattered as she noticed an open window opposite the entry doors, an intricate black lace mask resting lightly on the sill. She recognized it instantly.

Fisting a hand into her loose curls, Minerva tried to swallow the frustrated knot welling in her throat and instead turned away from the window, her face growing hot with rage as the team on the other side of the radio receiver continued to yell into her ear. Humiliated, again. Minerva let herself scream silently, suddenly feeling the necklace August had draped across her neck. Those gems… they were definitely real. She’d handled the piece enough to recognize its brilliant stones, its distinctive weight; the Thief had hung the real Spellbound Sapphire around her neck, as if leaving a mocking reminder of just how utterly she had failed. When did he even get his hands on it?

What an unbelievably pompous, smug, mocking, miserable piece of –

Minerva played the night over and over in her head as she hailed a taxi and walked back to the precinct, shivering in her elaborate gown, oblivious to the puzzled stares that followed her as she made her way down the sidewalk. How could she have been so stupid? She was so focused on catching the thief, on proving herself to everyone, that she hadn’t even thought… His thefts were usually flashier, neatly coordinated. He always made them an event, a display of how much better he was than everyone else. But this theft had been so quiet, so personal. Minerva felt as if she had been specifically targeted. Why? What was his angle?

Sighing softly, Minerva pushed her way past the doors leading to their precinct's office. It was late – well past midnight, in fact – and the place was practically empty, save for a few stragglers working overtime. Throwing on her most comfortable coat and seating herself at her desk, Minerva started searching on the name she’d repeated a thousand times in her head: August Milenario. It didn’t take long for the results to return just three hits; and unless the Thief was secretly twelve-years-old, female, or deceased, he’d given her a fake name. Of course. She’d expected as much. Minerva dejectedly slumped forward on to her desk, planting her face against the cool wood with a hollow thunk.

“Hey, Rookie.”

Minerva didn’t bother lifting her face. The absolute very last thing she wanted to deal with right now was her coworkers’ usual teasing. “Go away,” she responded at first, voice muffled, before letting out an audible breath and adding, “What is it?”

“You, uh… You did good.”

Brow furrowing, Minerva lifted her head to peer at the small collection of fellow detectives who had gathered around her. “I was supposed to get him this time,” Minerva groaned.

“Yeah, but you managed to retrieve the target, didn’t you? I’m sure its owner is pleased, so it wasn’t all in vain.” replied another, shrugging his shoulders.

One of her fellow detectives flashed her a broad grin, nudging her lightly with his elbow. “Besides, you really went all out. I don’t think we’ve never seen you act so girly before, y’know? Dancin’ with people and everything…” His partner’s booming voice interrupted the meeker detective before he could finish. “We were all taking bets on how soon you’d blow your own cover!” he bellowed, laughing alongside his teammate. “Was he your type?”

The boys trailed off in a chorus of laughter as Minerva slumped deeper into her coat, holding her hands up to hide her cheeks as they flooded with color, blushing furiously with embarrassment. Still, she couldn’t help but laugh along with them.

“Thanks, I guess.” she managed. She was starting to feel a little better, at least. Maybe she hadn’t caught him this time, but he was bound to steal again. He couldn’t resist humiliating her for long, and Minerva knew she would be prepared. When the Striking Thief dared to show his face again, this “rookie” detective would be ready to take him down. She just knew it.

07 EI Report: The Prince's Rose & introducing Zodiacal: EquinoxEdit

  • Icon announceAnnouncement EI Report: The Prince's Rose & introducing Zodiacal: Equinox - [NPC] Dr. Singh Sat Jun 07, 2014 1:01 am

Happy Friday, Gaians! We've got a lot of ground to cover in today's report, so let's get started! The Prince's Rose has evolved once more, and we've got a brand new Evolving Item recolor, Zodiacal: Equinox!

-

The Prince's Rose: The girl’s eyes followed the blade as it swung towards her, because she dare not close them, knowing if she did they’d simply never reopen. If this was how it was all going to end then she wanted to be aware until the very last second, until she felt that blade’s cold sting against her skin. Wasn’t it strange how alive one felt the moment before death? She could feel every frantic beat of her own heart, pounding against her her ribs, every flutter of her pulse; she knew she was no longer breathing, the air trapped in her lungs, as that blade lowered practically by inches, and she wouldn’t close her eyes, she wouldn’t look away, she wouldn’t --

The bite never came. Instead she found herself pushed roughly to the cold ground, the ringing clang of metal on metal filling her ears. Her eyes flicked up to see the prince standing before her, wielding a thin, silvery blade with a handle carved to resemble an ornate rose, his sword absorbing the blow intended for her. “You stupid girl,” he snarled, not even giving her the courtesy of a glance back. The spirit withdrew and sheathed his blade, dropping to his knees before him as the prince straightened to his full height, his sword still pointed at the spirit’s incorporeal form.

“Lower your weapons,” he commanded, icy, “and kneel.” The ghosts dutifully acquiesced, a sea of dead soldiers following their former commander, and the prince smirked at their obedience. The danger gone, he flicked the point of his sword upwards, dragging the tip along the ghost’s face almost mockingly, before turning back towards the maiden. She stared up at him, breathless, her fine silks dirtied by the dewy grass. His hand reached for her wrist and easily pulled her to her feet, snorting derisively as she stumbled, but allowing her the small mercy of not commenting on it.

“Enough of this. Come home -- where you belong.”

She was too dazed to protest. The prince led her by the arm, as if she were a child, back past the wide doors of his black castle. He all but threw her back inside, the doors slamming shut with a resounding thud behind them, before he finally relinquished his hold on her wrist.

“You’re bleeding.” she observed, quiet. The prince lifted a hand and swept his fingers along his brow, the tips coming away bloodied.

“Its sword must’ve nicked me,” he replied, dismissive. “It’s nothing.”

Wordlessly, the girl tore off a portion of her skirt -- the dress was ruined anyway, no way the prince would ever allow her to wear such a thing to dinner again -- and gingerly reached up, intending to dab the blood away from his brow, but the prince flinched away, his eyes narrowing with suspicion.

“What are you doing?” he asked.

The girl didn’t bother to respond, instead simply rolling on to the balls of her feet and beginning to carefully clean the prince’s wound. He remained still this time, almost too still, as if he’d simply forgotten to breathe. When she drew away his gaze lowered for a moment, suddenly too embarrassed to meet her eyes, and for a moment the pair stood in a slow, awkward silence.

Eventually the prince turned away from her, a hand coming to rest lightly on the hilt of his fine rose sword. “What you did was unforgivably foolish,” he began, “Next time you choose to pull a stunt like that, I’ll simply let them have you.” A pause, and he still refused to look at her, but his tone softened slightly. “But you tended to my wound, and for that I thank you.”

She gave him no reply. Instead the maiden brushed past the prince, intent on heading back to her tower.

“Dinner tonight. I expect to see you there!” the prince called to her retreating back, and so it was. She no longer attempted to escape, instead simply donning the fine presents the prince gave her each night and joining him for dinner, as ordered. Their meals became less of an exercise in tedious silence as the prince began to open up to her, asking her questions about how she liked her nightly gifts, how well they seemed to suit her: the flowing red robes complemented the color of her hair, the silken overskirt her shape, how they made her look like a fine, wealthy lady. He’d swear that she was turning into a proper noblewoman, that her manners were improving, her quiet nature a sign of her attentiveness. The girl would demurely thank him for his comments but rarely responded, and when the prince demanded her love she simply took that as her cue to leave, to return to her tower, and she assumed it would continue like this forever.

Until the sixth night. Rather than waiting for her at the head of the table, the prince instead stood by the door, dipping into a practiced bow as she entered.

“I’ve a gift for you,” he murmured, surprisingly gentle. It surprised her to realize his tone could be any less than cutting and cruel, the kindness in his voice taking her slightly aback. “Close your eyes.”

Confused, the girl did as she was told, listening to the prince’s silks rustle as he laid something heavy upon her head.

“Open them.”

Her eyes fluttered open and she reached a hand upwards, fingers trailing carefully along spines of delicate metal, wincing as it pricked her fingers. A black crown, made to resemble thorns, as sharp and cool as the prince’s eyes.

“It suits you, my princess,” he said, smiling. His hand dropped to gently brush the back of his fingers against her cheek, almost tender, and she felt warmth flood her cheeks at this touch. “Now, will you love me?”

Zodiacal: Equinox: Zodiacal makes a triumphant return with stylish new colors and even a fabulous new pose! This month we've got the sign of Gemini, recolored in vibrant black and red.

13 EI Report: The Prince's Rose and BunnihilationEdit

  • Icon announceAnnouncement EI Report: The Prince's Rose and Bunnihilation - [NPC] Dr. Singh Fri Jun 13, 2014 4:04 pm

Prepare yourself, Gaians! Evolutions are coming. Because this week we've been blessed with not only one, but TWO incredible finales! Are you ready? Sitting down? Do you have all your safety gear on? No? Well let's press on anyway, because we're taking a look at The Prince's Rose and Bunnihilation's finales!

-

Bunnihilation: It's time for total Bunnihilation, everyone! In this week's incredible finale it seems as if all the little bunnies have banded together to create some truly adorable items for you! A jaunty little hat, a belt, a bowtie that droops just like a lop's ears - it's so amazing you could practically hop for joy! Bunnihilation may be over but you'll at least have all your memories and fun items!

The Prince's Rose: There was blood on the sword. She could see it, a bright, vibrant red, as the prince gave a final gurgle, his eyes wide. Then, eyes still open, his chest rattled and there was nothing; silence, at long last. No more demands, no more gifts. He was as pathetic in death as he was in life, and the maiden scowled as she pushed him away with the toe of her boot -- another gift from the prince, a symbol of his supposed “generosity” -- and watched with narrowed eyes as his corpse rolled down the steps, landing in a heap at the foot of them.

It was amazing how quickly this had all happened. From wandering through a dark forest and happening upon a single white rose, to being engaged to a cruel, cursed prince. He’d insisted that she was to be his fiancé, his “princess”, even though she never once agreed to his demands to love him. The prince mistook her dutiful nature and fear for her life as a tacit agreement, and he’d started planning the wedding almost immediately after placing that heavy crown on her head. It was to be a quick, empty affair: the castle was abandoned, save for her and the prince, and the dead that wandered the battlefield outside were hardly the sort of guests fit for a royal wedding. But he still insisted that she wear the finest gown, a bridal veil made of delicate lace, soft slippers to make her more dainty and ladylike -- he even forced her to dye her hair a color that suited him better. She had to be “presentable” after all, since the prince was deigning to marry one of the unseemly rabble.

He constantly bemoaned her peasant upbringing, but occasionally his words were kinder: he complimented her on her improving manners, on how beautiful she looked in all the finery he lavished upon her, claiming he would turn her into a true princess, his princess. Together they would break the curse on the land, the one that trapped him in this dark castle and the surrounding forest, and his ghostly troops would sweep over the country once more. He craved conquest, pure and simple, and he would lead his damned army across the nation while she remained at his side, a doting wife and princess. Wasn’t she lucky to be the object of his affections, his beautiful, precious rose? But the would-be princess could only think of how deluded the prince was, to have thought she could ever love him.

Because the girl knew that it was all just a cruel joke. She would never be a princess -- not his, nor anyone else’s.

Her ambitions ran far, far deeper.

As the prince pledged his love to her before the altar she wordlessly accepted, marrying the prince not because she cared for him, or even tolerated him, but because that vow consecrated her hold on the castle. It was over quickly and she returned to her room immediately after, her mind made up as she once more donned the robes he’d given her, the overskirt, a silken dress -- and her new boots, a final present from her husband. She made her way to the front of the castle, as she had been told, so that the prince could present her in front of his remaining “subjects”.

And there they stood, before the wide double doors of the black castle, man and wife, prince and princess, and the smile he offered her as he reached for her hand made her skin crawl.

But the girl said nothing. Instead, she merely wrapped her hand around the hilt of his rose blade, freeing it from its scabbard as she took a step back. Her expression remained icy calm as the prince’s brow knitted, fixing her with a confused stare.

“Kneel,” she ordered, grating the words between her teeth, and with the blade pointed at his throat the prince had no choice to obey. He dropped to his knees before her, betrayal flickering across his eyes.

“My princess,” he began, a note of warning in his voice.

She raised the sword high, holding it above her head, her eyes bright with fire.

“Why be a princess when you can be a queen?”

And then she drove the blade downwards, planting it in the prince’s throat, a blood red rose blossoming around its point as she claimed her victory.

The dead soldiers rumbled up from the ground, clawing upwards, lurching towards her to assemble around their fallen commander. The girl watched silently as the ghastly apparitions pulled the dead prince to his feet, the bloodied blade sticking out the back of his neck, and while his knees wobbled they held. His hand lifted to the gilded rose handle of his sword, extracting it slowly from his throat, before he cast his eyes upwards to stare at the girl he had hoped to make his bride, his face bereft of any expression. She watched with cold eyes, a smirk spreading over her lips as he joined the others in line, now just as common as they.

“I command you now,” she began, gazing out over the horde that now belonged to her, waiting fearfully for her orders, “All of you, you are my army. Now, love me.”

20 EI Report: Introducing Rose Saga!Edit

  • Icon announceAnnouncement EI Report: Introducing Rose Saga! - [NPC] Dr. Singh Fri Jun 20, 2014 4:38 pm

Friday at long last, Gaians! Just think of all the amazing scientific achievements we've had this week. Why, just yesterday I learned that putting tinfoil in the microwave causes a somewhat more adverse, violent reaction than I expected! Although I have yet to figure out how magnets actually work... Life's many mysteries, I suppose! But those scientific novelties can't even hold a candle to the magnificence of this week's brand new EI. Ladies and gentlemen, I am proud to present Rose Saga!

-

Rose Saga: The bright halls of Academie Eglantine held a mysterious secret. Rosa did her best to avoid the awed stares of her new classmates, intent on quietly making her way towards the great library. Her rose-colored hair and strangely pointed ears marked her as someone not-quite-human; she heard whispers, people claiming she was descended from ylves, but no one had seen those tell-tale ears in hundreds of years. Perhaps they were only a legend after all...

Hidden away from prying eyes amongst the dusty tomes, Rosa leafed through ancient spell books and modern alchemy manuals, the products of centuries of magic and technology intermarrying. But among the histories and epics one book in particular seemed to call to her. Bound all in black leather and gilded with elaborate gold leaf, its cover emblazoned with an ornate mother-of-pearl. It seemed to be the story of a pious young woman who became a legendary knight, although the text was faded and somewhat difficult to read.

Suddenly, a soft voice spoke up behind her: "Can I help you find something...?"

Gracious Gaians, it's almost too hot to science these days! Who inflicted this weather upon us? I've been hearing rumors about a Summer Sale, but frankly I haven't the time nor the patience for it. There's experiments to perform! Data to collate! Interns to torment! And nothing will distract me from th -- what? Oh my goodness they're selling a Basket of Kittens? Excuse me, Gaians, I have to go attend to some... some science business that's just cropped up. But in the meantime, let's take a look at look at Rose Saga's newest evolutions!

-

Rose Saga: How strange... Rosa had never seen this girl before, but something about her seemed so hauntingly familiar. Maybe it was her soft brown hair, or her kind blue eyes -- Rosa wasn't sure. But one thing was certain: Rosa thought the girl was beautiful.

"Oh, L'histoire de Sainte Ciel," the girl said, blushing behind her glasses. She was smiling, but her eyes looked sad, as if she had been crying. She pointed shyly at the old book in Rosa's hands. "That one is special to me. A holy knight who rescues an ylven princess from an evil entity... Have you read it?"

Rosa flushed, suddenly self-conscious about her pointed ears. The girl must have noticed. "Ah..."

"Oh, ah, I'm sorry! How rude of me." The girl giggled nervously, covering her mouth with one delicate hand. There was a bright flash of a gold ring. "I'm the library assistant. My name is Celeste."

04 EI Report: Rose Saga and introducing Peony and BlossomsEdit

  • Icon announceAnnouncement EI Report: Rose Saga and introducing Peony and Blossoms - [NPC] Dr. Singh Fri Jul 04, 2014 4:20 pm

Happy Friday, Gaians! I'm celebrating today with tons of explosions, fire, and fiery explosions! ... No, that's just part of an experiment I'm running. What is this so-called "Independence Day" you speak of? Anyway, we've got some great Evolving Items to look at today, so let's dive right in! Rose Saga has finished another evolution, and it appears we've discovered a brand new EI! Let's take a closer look at Peony and Blossoms:

-

Peony and Blossoms: You are walking home one evening after a particularly ruff day, eyes on your feet as you plod despondently down the sidewalk. Work is overwhelming, your social life is increasingly stressful, and you totally accidentally kicked that cute guy who works in Legal in the shins... You heave a weighty sigh, resolved to simply head home and dive straight back into those documents you need to read for work, when a hint of something floral and soft drifts past your nose. You turn to discover a massive peony bush just off the sidewalk. There was no way it was there this morning -- did someone plant it there in the afternoon?

You move closer to the bush, enjoying the flowers' delicate fragrance, and pluck a few of the larger blossoms to tuck into your hairclip. Something about the sweet scent relaxes you, and you bend closer to the bush to inhale deeply when a sound suddenly catches your attention.

"Arf!"

You stagger back a few steps, surprised to see a small dog poking its head out between branches. It stares up at you, tongue lolling out excitedly, before hopping out of the bush and scrambling over to where you stand to begin affectionately licking your shoe. You stoop to pick it up and cradle the adorable puppy in your arms, stilling its squirming long enough to realize the dog has a little bow tied around its neck, along with a note bearing a single word: "Blossom."

Rose Saga: "I'm Rosa," said the red-haired girl. She looked flustered, bashful even. "I-I'm new he-- oops!" Rose felt her face redden as the old book slipped from her hands. "I'm so sorry! I'm not usually this clumsy..."

Celeste smiled gently and bent down to pick up the book. The soft smell of roses seemed to rise from its yellowed pages. Celeste gazed at the strange girl, her cute pointed ears, the dark blush rising on her coffee-colored skin. Something about her seemed so warm and familiar, a golden memory from long ago... "You said you're a new student? I swear we've met before..."

As Celeste handed back the book, their hands touched. Celeste's heart quickened. So familiar, just like... But it was impossible... Celeste looked down at the golden ring on her left hand, set with a pearl carved in the shape of a rose.

"Beautiful," Rosa whispered. Did she mean the ring?

"Oh, this! It's very special. It was given to me by--"

Suddenly a bell chimed. "Oh, I'm so sorry Rosa, I'm late for the student council meeting! I hope I'll see you again..."

11 EI Report: Rose Saga and Peony and BlossomsEdit

  • Icon announceAnnouncement EI Report: Rose Saga and Peony and Blossoms - [NPC] Dr. Singh Fri Jul 11, 2014 1:13 pm

Another fabulous Friday, science fans! Are you ready for some knowledge to hit you in the face like a banana cream pie? No? How about just the pie then? Darn! How am I ever going to find subjects for my banana cream pie velocity experiment... Well, I suppose we ought to look at this weeks evolving items! We've got evolutions from Peony and Blossoms and Rose Saga to cover, so let's dive right in!

-

Peony and Blossoms: After a litany of posters put up on every utility pole within a five mile radius of your home, you've come to the conclusion that Blossom -- as you are now calling the dog -- seems to not have a family. It's hard to resist buying things for the adorable pooch: chew toys, bowls, rawhide bones, the best puppy chow your salary can buy. And the pièce de résistance? A gorgeous designer handbag, the perfect size for toting along your new furry companion. Ready for a fun day with Blossom, you easily tuck her into the bag and wind a colorful ribbon through your hair that perfectly matches the bow Blossom had tied around her neck when you found her.

Time to enjoy your day!

Rose Saga: Rosa couldn't wait. The same mysterious force that led her to the gilded tome in her hands urged her to follow Celeste up the Academie's many tower stairwells, until she reached the Council conference hall. She peeked around the corner and spied a small group of students, one of whom stood at the head of the table; Celeste waited meekly at her side. The girl's long midnight curls hid a rose-shaped scar, and she possessed a cold, familiar beauty. As Rosa watched her, the girl stopped speaking and looked sharply toward the door. Their eyes met. It was like looking into a dark mirror.

"Rosa!" Celeste called, though her voice shook slightly. "W-we were just starting... Please, join us?"

Cautiously, Rosa rounded the corner, her eyes moving between Celeste and the mysterious stranger. The stranger gazed back with an unreadable expression as she laced her pale fingers with Celeste's, her rose ring flashing in the dim light.

"Rosa, this is the student council president," Celeste said quietly, "and my fiancee... Briar."

18 EI Report: Rose Saga, Peony & Blosoms, and Zodiacal: EquinoxEdit

  • Icon announceAnnouncement EI Report: Rose Saga, Peony & Blosoms, and Zodiacal: Equinox - [NPC] Dr. Singh Fri Jul 18, 2014 5:40 pm

Gaians, I find the best way to escape summer's oppressive heat is with a hearty dose of healthy, refreshing science! We've been very busy at the Evolving Item Labs, which is why I'm delighted to present three amazing evolutions today! Let's take a closer look at Peony and Blossoms, Rose Saga, and Zodiacal: Equinox:

-

Peony and Blossoms: Blossom has become a real hit at the office! Normally people aren't supposed to bring in dogs, but you snuck Blossom in because you couldn't bear the thought of leaving her all alone in your apartment. Besides, her fur perfectly matches the adorable top you're wearing! Unfortunately, Blossom decided to yap excitedly at all the new strangers around her -- and your boss. But apparently she was so gosh darn cute that he'd said he'd let you get away with it this time! And then he offered you a big bonus check for "having an extremely cute dog, and other stuff, or whatever." ... Huh. Weird.

But hey! That means you can buy those cute shorts you saw in the shop the other day! As you purchase them Blossom sits besides you, wagging her tail approvingly. She is one lucky pooch!

Rose Saga: Weeks passed, and Rosa did her best to avoid Celeste and the girl with the scar. She saw them in the halls occasionally, accidentally meeting Briar's cold, strange gaze, or a flushed glance from Celeste. She swore she saw something there, a hint of what Rosa felt, sudden and consuming love. It happened so quickly, but it felt old and familiar. Rosa felt her love for Celeste deep in her bones, as if it had always been there.

One day, Rosa returned to the library. She had to see the book again, to read for herself the story she had started to remember. Celeste was there, holding it with trembling hands.

"When I met Briar, she was holding this book. She seemed so familiar, so when she told me she was the Rosamund of the story, and I her Ciel, it felt..." She looked down at the ring. "...if not true, then what I wanted." Celeste's eyes shone with tears. "Briar gave me this ring saying it was the one that married us hundreds of year ago, in our previous life. But now I know the truth. She has tricked me the way she always has, since our first life... And you, Rosa, are my destiny, my Rosamund."

When they kissed, the ring began to glow, and a golden rose crest shone on Rosa's and Celeste's foreheads. Their uniforms shimmered and started to transform...

Zodiacal: Equinox: Looks like the astrolabe has turned towards Cancer! This time we see Cancer's gorgeous poses recolored in cream and black, along with the addition of a fashionable new hairstyle!

25 EI Report: Rose Saga and Peony and BlossomsEdit

  • Icon announceAnnouncement EI Report: Rose Saga and Peony and Blossoms - [NPC] Dr. Singh Fri Jul 25, 2014 12:55 pm

Good Friday, everyone! How have you been? Earnestly pursuing knowledge and truth, I hope? That's certainly what I've been doing! And what better way to uncover life's many mysteries than with experimental elective surgery? I certainly haven't found a better method. Alas, I have no amazing findings to report on that front today -- but we do have two new evolutions to cover! Let's take a look at Peony and Blossoms and the spectacular finale of Rose Saga:

-

Peony and Blossoms: Blossom has discovered a new favorite method of transport: riding happily on your head. Sure, it musses your hair up ever so slightly, but she just looks so gosh darn cute up there! You happily strut down the street in your fancy leggings as Blossom naps in your nest of hair, as content as a tiny puppy can ever possibly be. You've been doing a little extra shopping with that bonus check -- and it's even easier than ever, because everywhere you go with Blossom the people at the register are happy to give you a discount! The advantages of owning an impossibly cute dog are clearly too numerous to count. You got this fabulous new bra for 50% off, for crying out loud!

You hear Blossom yawn from above. Poor sleepy puppy -- perhaps it's time to take her home for a nap?

Rose Saga: Rosa and Celeste, united by love and transformed into legendary knights, raced up the tower to the council room. Surely their ancient enemy would be there, waiting to destroy them now that they had awakened...

"Show yourself, Mephiste! We will not be manipulated by your schemes!"

But what they found was not the fearsome demon of their dark memories, but Briar crumpled on the floor, glittering tears streaming down her pale cheeks.

"Why won't you love me?" she cried pathetically. "All I wanted was what you had together! I want to be loved... I want to be you!"

Suddenly Rosa and Celeste felt very foolish in their magic armor, brandishing their swords at this weeping girl. Is this what Mephiste had become, after hundreds of years of solitude? They sensed no dark power, but a deep, lonesome sadness.

"Mephi-- That is, Briar," Celeste began. "Mine and Rosa's destinies are entwined, but you don't have to be our enemy!"

"You have your own story," Rosa added. "You can be a hero too! And you can find love, in many different forms."

Hope shone in Briar's unmarred eye. The beautiful knights smiled kindly at her and raised their swords. A blinding light filled the hall and washed the weeping girl in healing magic. Briar felt herself changing. Her skin seemed to glow, her scars fading to tiny silver threads, her healed eyes bright and clear. In a flash, her body disappeared, leaving in its wake a book, silver gilt and bearing the crest of a sapphire rose -- "L'histoire du Mephiste". The story of a mysterious girl who was both a princess and a knight...

  • Icon announceAnnouncement EI Report: Peony and Blossoms - [NPC] Dr. Singh Fri Aug 01, 2014 3:52 pm

Friday at long last, Gaians! Goodness, I thought today would simply never come. I have so much exciting science to talk about! There was the incident in the reactor that -- oh, wait. I'm legally not allowed to discuss that. Well, nevermind! Instead I'll tell you all about the intern that we tuned into a -- wait. I signed an NDA on that one as well. Dangit! Stymied at every turn! The life of a mad scientist is a cruel one, everyone. I do have one final exciting development to discuss, however! We've got new evolutions from Peony and Blossoms to look at, so let's put it under the microscope and take a peek!

-

Peony and Blossoms: Your boss sent out an email the other day amending the "no dog rule" in the office, changing it so that only Blossom is allowed to visit. Normally you would've expected your coworkers to complain about the blatant favoritism, but they seem shockingly calm -- even excited -- about the whole thing. You briefly contemplate not bringing Blossom to work, but her adorable brown eyes are too sweet to resist. Instead you dress Blossom up in some of her finest puppy gear and set out for the office, threading a few peonies from the bush where you found Blossom into your belt as you walk past it. Blossom yips approvingly from her perch atop your head, and the two of you head into the office...

Only to be met by a gaggle of coworkers wearing party hats. One of them has baked a giant cake in celebration of Blossom's arrival, while another has crafted you a grand cloak "befitting of the one who bears Blossom" as she excitedly explains. You accept the gifts, but you can't help but think that this is all starting to seem a little strange.

08 EI Report: Peony and Blossoms' finale!Edit

  • Icon announceAnnouncement EI Report: Peony and Blossoms' finale! - [NPC] Dr. Singh Fri Aug 08, 2014 2:27 am

All right everyone, listen up! It's finally Friday, and I won't tolerate any lollygagging while I'm sciencing about the room! Or lecturing, or whatever it is I'm actually supposed to be doing. So I expect you all to pay very close attention! Let me just find my notes here and... Well, it seems I've forgotten my notes. Never mind! This important safety lecture that could potentially prevent you from experiencing a horrible, painful end at the hands of one of my creations -- I mean, inventions -- will have to wait for next week! In the meantime, let's take a look at today's stunning finale from Peony and Blossoms!

-

Peony and Blossoms: The past few months have all been a blur. Everything had seemed so harmless at first. You were just receiving discounts at the mall and bonuses from your boss because your dog was so adorable! That sort of thing could happen to anyone, right? There was no way you could have known that any of this would happen...

Blossom TV shows. Blossom magazines. Blossom fragrances. Blossom airlines. Everyone reveres the cute, cuddly little critter like some sort of popular idol. You've already done five interviews today as Blossom's esteemed "interpreter" and there's at least two more to come. You even have your own legion of committed fans -- after all, you were the one who found Blossom back in that peony bush. As the great Keeper of Blossom, you're showered with gifts from the adoring multitudes: jewelry, a comfy cardigan, even a fabulous couture gown... And of course, a bunch of custom leashes for Blossom. But it is no longer you who leads the pooch around -- she's taken the reins. She controls everything now. Everything.

You are Blossom. I am Blossom. We are all Blossom. Yipyip!

Hooray, my little bastions of scientific integrity! Just when you thought we had run all out of science, I've conjured up a brand new Evolving Item that I'm positive will absolutely blow your mind! Although not literally, because I'm not cleaning up that mess again. Let's take a look!

-

Pieces of You: Mara stood in front of the mirror, meticulously putting on the final touches of her lovely "date night" look. Tonight was a special evening, as she was celebrating her one year anniversary with her beloved boyfriend Maxwell. She packed her purse with all the essentials: phone, mints, makeup... And a kitchen knife, sharpened to a terrifyingly deadly point.

Mara met Max at a fancy restaurant, where he immediately presented her with a giant bouquet of fine white roses.

"Oh, Maxwell," Mara sighed dreamily. "You only buy me roses when you've done something bad."

Maxwell seemed startled by her teasing tone, but he managed a prompt reply, "Of course not, dear. It's for our anniversary!"

"Don't lie to me, Max darling. I followed you around last week. I saw you smiling at every girl that passed your way. I even saw you smiling at my best friend over cappuccinos yesterday. You have such a lovely smile, Max. Such lovely white teeth. I can't wait to pull them out and make a necklace out of them..."

Mara grabbed her purse and reached inside...

Happy Friday, science lovers! I trust you've all been doing your homework and studying for your exams? It doesn't matter if it's summer break, you know. Science waits for no one! Progress must always march on! And speaking of which, we've got some incredible evolutions to put under the microscope today. Let's take a gander at Pieces of You and Zodiacal: Equinox!

-

Pieces of You: Mara pulled the knife from her purse and lunged at Maxwell across the table. A vicious fight ensued as the pair wrestled one another to the floor, much to the horror of all the other patrons. It wasn't long before the elegant carpet was slick with blood crimson blood -- and, finally, it ended. Mara slowly wobbled to her feet to stand over Maxwell's still body, a triumphant grin spreading slowly across her face. It was only then that she felt the pain in her side; she pressed a hand to it with a wince, pulling her fingers away and glancing down. Her entire hands was sticky with blood. At some point Maxwell must have managed to grab a steak knife. Apparently, the blood slowly pooling around them wasn't only his. Mara's last thought as she slipped away was one of rage... and excitement...

... and she awoke in a very different place. Down in Hell where it was hot and foul, where shadows danced at the corners of her visionn. Mara should have felt remorse for her act and accepted her eternal punishment -- but that tussle with Maxwell was the most thrilling moment of her life. It was just so much fun! She wanted to experience that moment more... a lot more!

Zodiacal: Equinox: Another amazing development from this remarkable EI! Leo bursts into existence with a terrifying roar, its familiar poses now rendered in deep black and pure white. It includes a pair of vibrant eyes as a brand new pose, perfect for intimidating your prey!

Hello, my tasty little morsels of scientific goodness! Dr. Singh here, back with another fascinating report on our astounding Evolving Items. I conducted an interesting experiment this week, where I played different genres of music to an item that was still evolving. Do you know what happened? Absolutely nothing! I'm not sure what the scientific significance of that data is, but I'm so excited to begin my analysis that I can barely stand it! We have more pressing matters to attend to at the moment, of course. It's time to take a closer look at our latest evolutions from Pieces of You!

-

Pieces of You: Mara wasn't going to let something like her death stop her from her exciting new hobby of killing people. Her new fiendish friends were quickly able to show her some tricks they'd been taught. A powerful being had shown them how they could return to the land of the living by possessing bodies and using them for evil!

And so Mara returned back to earth... with a plan already in mind. She made her way to the home of her former best friend and rang the doorbell.

Stefanie opened the door slowly, confused by the stranger who stood before her. "Can I help you?" she managed, uncertain.

Mara spoke from within the stolen body, "Hello again, Stefanie. I missed you so very, very much. You're my dearest friend! You know, I saw you hanging out with Maxwell the other day. You two looked awfully cozy..."

Stefanie's eyes widened in recognition and fear as Mara continued. "Were you trying to steal my boyfriend? Did you throw your body at him? You always had such a lovely tiny waist. I'm going to take it now." Mara smiled pleasantly as she pressed her way past Stefanie to step into her house.

Are you ready, everyone? Because it's time for science! Sweet, glorious, nurturing science, Is there anything better? Well, peanut brittle. But only by a slim margin! Of course, it's hard to compete with the amazing evolutions we have to look at today. Lets put Pieces of You under the microscope and analyze what makes it so fascinating!

-

Pieces of You: Mara continued on her murderous rampage on Earth. There were a lot of people who had angered her for even the slightest offense all the years she had been alive. Sometimes it was too boring to simply kill a feeble human, and so Mara found a sadistic joy in ruining her victim's lives before destroying them utterly.

Taking possession of other's bodies to use as her own was hard work. With each mortal body she used and discarded, her own form in hell slowly twisted into something more sinister and fiendish, until she began to resemble her demonic friends.

12 EI Report: Pieces of YouEdit

  • Icon announceAnnouncement EI Report: Pieces of You - [NPC] Dr. Singh Fri Sep 12, 2014 8:35 pm

Greetings, my crumpets of buttery scientific goodness! Today we chicken a pancake with stuffing and banana. Er... I mean, today we're taking a closer look at our Evolving Items! You'll have to forgive me for having food on the brain, it's just that I'm so hungry... I'm doing an experiment where I eat nothing but wet paper and the occasional cup of warm broth. Well, okay, it's technically not an experiment, and more that I keep forgetting to go food shopping. But I've been so busy studying today's evolutions that I haven't the time! Let's just look at Pieces of You together, shall we?

-

Pieces of You: Weeks rolled by but Mara's insatiable lust for blood only grew with each passing day. Nothing she did seemed to quench her thirst for the suffering of others, no matter how violent or terrible an act she committed. In fact, torturing others for her own amusement was starting to feel a bit banal. Mara no longer felt a thrill as she snuffed out another human life, felt no rush of joy as she sent another poor soul screaming into the darkness. Her wicked work soon surpassed even that of her fiendish companions, but it no longer brought her any comfort -- in fact, Mara's new friends were starting to bore her terribly as well.

It was just like life topside, where her own ennui and disgust with the world had driven her to commit heinous acts. Except now Mara was doing something terrible every day, and she felt just as apathetic as ever. Was there anything out there that would truly slake her hunger for the misery of others?

Still, Mara clung to her rage. She refused to be defeated by her own boredom, and continued to revel in the delicious suffering of others. Her name became quite well known 'round her little circle of Hell, and so it scarcely surprised her when a small minion scampered towards her, already seemingly fearful of her presence.

"Someone is looking for you... He asks that you follow me." the pitiful creature chittered, wringing its bony hands together.

Mara contemplated for a moment as the minion hobbled a few steps away from her and then paused, waiting for her to follow. Finally, she decided that it couldn't be any more boring than what she was already planning to do that day. With her curiosity somewhat piqued, Mara deigned to follow the imp.

19 EI Report: Zodiacal: Equinox and Pieces of You finale!Edit

  • Icon announceAnnouncement EI Report: Zodiacal: Equinox and Pieces of You finale! - [NPC] Dr. Singh Fri Sep 19, 2014 3:13 pm

Hello, science lovers! A happy Friday to you all. I've been so busy this week researching new developments in the world of Evolving Items that I've scarcely had time to sleep, eat, or even think! I thought today was Tuesday until an hour ago, you know. How time flies when you're busy conducting totally ethical research! Again, I emphasize: totally ethical. That out of the way, let's take a look at this week's spectacular evolutions! It seems we have more to see from Zodiacal: Equinox, and Pieces of You comes to a remarkable finale!

-

Zodiacal: Equinox: This month the Astrolabe has turned towards the constellation Virgo! Intelligent and analytical, those who fall under the sign of Virgo are sure to master anything they put their mind to. Recolored in soft pink hues, it's time to strike a pose with a fabulous new leg mod!

Pieces of You: The twisted minion led Mara for miles and miles, heading deeper down into the shadowy places of Hell that Mara had never seen before. Mara's impatience grew as they wandered through steaming corridors and down darkened passages, but finally the imp led her to a large cave. She could scarcely make out a silhouette towards the back of the cave, but as her eyes adjusted to the darkness she realized a large and ominous figure was seated on a throne before her, a presence too terrifying to describe. Mara knew this was the man who had summoned her -- but she was hardly impressed.

Mara scoffed, "Who is this guy? I have lives to ruin, I don't have time for games."

"ENOUGH!" His voice erupted as a grating rumble that shook the stony walls of the cave. The sound was so deep and booming that it even silenced the impetuous Mara. "I have taken notice of your good work, child, but I have much to teach you and things are about to get difficult. So sit down and listen to my tale..."

To Be Continued...

Friday, Friday, Friday! For some this may just be another day spent slaving away in front of a desk or behind a counter, but not for me! The life of an amazing scientist is far too exciting to be considered average. Although, I did spent most of today slaving away in front of a desk. But it was worth it, because I've managed to discover an entirely new Evolving Item to analyze! This calls for further study, of course, but I'm delighted to introduce the spectacular L'histoire de Mephiste to you all:

-

L'histoire de Mephiste: Long before the epic of Sainte Ciel and Princess Rosamund, the world was wild with magic. Under the reign of the dark ylves, a permanent twilight settled over the land for generations, and the kingdom lay out of reach of the sun's warm arms.

The king and queen's first child was a baby girl, and the court sorcerer named her after the thorny velvet flowers that grew along the castle walls - Briar. But like all royal children, Briar was born under a dark star. She would grow up in the lap of luxury, under the silver light of the moon, but she would never be permitted to venture beyond the castle walls. Nor was she allowed to learn the secret of her family's lineage, magically sealed in a black book, hidden from the light deep within the castle's shadows...

03 EI Report: L'histoire de MephisteEdit

  • Icon announceAnnouncement EI Report: L'histoire de Mephiste - [NPC] Dr. Singh Fri Oct 03, 2014 3:20 pm

At long last October is here! Is there any other month as productive for us mad scientists? Grim undead creations coming to life, mutated monstrosities lurking in the basement, the gathering and collection of ghostly specimens... Not that I do any of those things! I'm not mad. I'm just saying, hypothetically, if I were an unstoppable force of scientific evil I'd be feeling awfully inspired right now. Again: hypothetically. Ahem. Let's take a look at L'histoire de Mephiste!

-

L'histoire de Mephiste: The first occasion Briar was permitted contact with outsiders was the princess’ sixteenth birthday. Ambassadors from distant ylven kingdoms were invited to a lavish ball in the land of twilight, including the heir to the throne of Aurelian, the sun-soaked coast of the amber ylves. In an unusual gesture of diplomacy, the Aureli heir had sent a gift ahead of the birthday masque.

“The finest leather slippers, gilt with Aureli gold, and papillon silk stockings,” said Briar’s attendant, presenting the gift in its ornate box. Gold. A rare material in the twilight kingdom, nowhere to be found within its moonlit borders. It was a precious gift indeed. “With warmest regards, signed their grace Saffron, crown of Aurelian.”

Briar’s heart quickened as she slipped the shoes on to her small feet. A perfect fit… But why send this gift so early? She would wear them to the masque and meet Saffron face to face, protocol be damned...

Finally Friday, and frankly I couldn't be happier! We've been sciencing our buns off here at the Evolving Item Labs, crafting creations like the awe-inspiring Evolution Showdown. Were you amazed by my genius? I assume so! I'm constantly impressed by how utterly brilliant I am. Take, for example, our latest evolutions to L'histoire de Mephiste. It's truly a sterling example of how far our research has come! Here, see for yourself:

-

L'histoire de Mephiste:“You may attend the masquerade, but you may not speak to the guests,” the court sorcerer said gravely. “It is forbidden.”

“The ball is in my honor,” Briar replied.

“This has always been custom. The king and queen forbid it. The law forbids it. End of discussion.”

Briar sulked in her chambers, gazing out the casement at the endless night. It wasn’t fair; it was her birthday, her masque. Was she to sit like a pretty, brainless doll while all her glittering guests danced the night away?

The full moon cast a silver glow over the castle grounds. Guests had already begun arriving for the next evening’s festivities, yvlen royalty from the deep forests, from the icy north… and then, shining like a golden star, the court of the Amber Coast. Briar watched eagerly as the procession approached the gates. One stood out among the riders.

They rode a black horse: a person like a gilded rose, with warm brown skin, hair like a sunset, and eyes that glimmered like gold. Saffron, Crown of Aurelian. They were so beautiful, Briar thought. So beautiful…

Gracious, Gaians, it's been hard to science with all these sweet and spooky distractions running around! Why, I thought I saw a rare undiscovered type of species the other day, but it was just another one of you tricksters in your monstrous costumes! Boy, was that embarrassing. I had the new species name picked out and everything. But I guess none of you want to change your names to "Singh legatum est immortale," do you? Well, I did manage to discover something brand new, at least: L'histoire de Mephiste has a new evolution! Take a look at this fascinating new development:

-

L'histoire de Mephiste The court was busy with party preparations, and for a night Briar went unnoticed, even as she snuck into the great underground treasury. Generations of jeweled crowns, silk robes, and gilded weapons glittered in the dim light of Briar’s single flickering candle. She was certain she would find something to impress the beautiful Saffron…

Without warning, a cold wind swept through the chamber, snuffing out the candle’s flame. As Briar’s eyes adjusted to the darkness, she saw that it was not entirely black. An eerie glow emanated from an old dusty book, pulsing subtly as if with a dark heartbeat. Briar traced its cover with her finger - a moon’s silver face, with one blinded eye. She heard it speak.

~Claim your birthright… It is already yours…~

Suddenly the book disintegrated under Briar’s touch, its pages crumbling to dust and its words lost. The silver mask remained, cold and beautiful in the princess’ small hands…

24 EI Report: Zodiacal Equinox & L'Histoire de MephisteEdit

  • Icon announceAnnouncement EI Report: Zodiacal Equinox & L'Histoire de Mephiste - [NPC] Dr. Singh Fri Oct 24, 2014 2:16 pm

Hello, Scienteers! Sciencalists? I need a better word for someone below an esteemed scientist, but above a mere science enthusiast. What would you say to "Sciencers?" Hello, Sciencers! It is yet another brisk autumn day, perfect for scouting out new developments in our beloved Evolving Items, and for learning to science up a cut of hot chocolate! Some may say that's a misuse of lab equipment and precious resources, but it's like, why not have hot chocolate made from deeply genetically modified cocoa beans that make you glow in the dark and ooze semi-safe levels of radioactive material if you have that kind of technology? It's a waste not to do it. Innovation at work, I say! But let's not tarry any further, it's time to see the next development of the fascinating Zodiacal: Equinox and L'Histoire de Mephiste!

-

Zodiacal: Equinox: This month, the Astrolabe has turned towards the constellation Libra! Balanced and harmonious, Libras are sure to charm anyone hey have their eye on! Recolored in some stunning black and gold hues, this new evolution brings us a gorgeous wig!

L'Histoire de Mephiste: Many generations ago, an ylven queen, mad with the fear of usurpation, made a dark pact to ensure her bloodline reigned forever.

The demon appeared to her in the dead of night, perched at the foot of her bed. Was it a man? Was it a crow? One eye glowed red and its voice raked over her mind like a claw gloved in silk.

~What would you give to wear your crown forever?~

“Anything,” she breathed.

~Then I will replace your heart with cold silver. You will want nothing else. You will love nothing else. The moment your heart warms, it is mine to consume…~

And for generations the royal bloodline was preserved with cold, loveless unions. The kingdom slept in endless twilight while the demon’s curse waited in their blood like a disease of inheritance. Empty hearts were joined in political marriage, one after another, and all was safe until the princess Briar laid eyes on Saffron, in all their warm golden splendor. Her blood warmed, and the disease spread.

In the ballroom, the crown of Aurelian approached the throne…

Sadly, that's all I have for this week, but rest assured I'll be back again as soon as there is more science to be done! Please remember to vote in our Weekly EI Poll and show some love for your favorites. See you soon, Sciencers!

L'Histoire de Mephiste

"My lady," Saffron said, their voice rich and warm. "I have heard rumors that the princess of the dark ylves is beautiful, though seldom seen. I am honored to confirm it with my own eyes. My heart is glad."

Briar stood speechless, her eyes alight but strangely empty. Protocol dictated that she nod respectfully and not respond, but all those cold traditions had been discarded. In its place, consuming desire remained. Saffron was beautiful. Saffron belonged to her. They all belonged to her.

Briar stepped forward and spoke, but her voice was not her own.

~"Your heart..."~

A shadow seemed to spread over Briar's face, the curse dripping from her fingertips like blood. A terrified murmur spread through the court, and the attending guards, confused, drew their blades. "Princess...?" Saffron whispered.

~"We are Mephiste. We have waited. We will have our birthright..."~

It happened so quickly that at first it seemed the court had fainted all at once. Every last dark ylf sank to the floor, and as their lifeblood spread in pools over the ground, their fates became clear. Saffron looked at the thing that had been the princess with absolute horror. Her body hovered in the air, surrounded by countless shadow hands, each gripping a still-beating ylven heart in their claws. Blood ran down her body in rivers.

~"Join us for the feast..."~ Mephiste hissed, its shadows reaching toward Saffron.

The Crown of Aurelian held out their graceful hands, and for a moment it seemed they would touch... but a sudden, blinding burst of light erupted from Saffron's body into the chamber. Every corner filled with the sun's burning blaze. Mephiste uttered a furious, unearthly shriek as the light scorched its shadowy flesh. Split into a thousand screaming pieces, the demon fled from the light to the world's most secret shadows. Hidden, at least for the moment.

The dark ylves had perished with the breaking of their unholy bargain, but for the first time in centuries, the sun rose over the castle walls...

Sadly, that's all I have for this week, but rest assured I'll be back again as soon as there is more science to be done! Please remember to vote in our Weekly EI Poll and show some love for your favorites. See you soon, Sciencers!

07 EI Report: Introducing Purrsuasion Play!Edit

  • Icon announceAnnouncement EI Report: Introducing Purrsuasion Play! - [NPC] Dr. Singh Fri Nov 07, 2014 8:31 pm

You know Sciencers, it's said that everything has its own perfect opposite somewhere in the universe. For example, all atoms have radioactive isotopes of themselves! On that same beautifully scientific note, matter has a very complicated relationship with anti-matter. Just like how some of us have strangely furry and possibly evil doppelgangers of ourselves who perform questionable genetic experiments on Evolving Items that seem to somehow mirror your own! Perfectly common fact of life, but isn't it just so much more amazing when you see the results?

-

[Animal] Purrsuasion Play & Purrsuasion Play

a short tale about two opposite cats
popular stories dictate a happily ever after
but they live in two different worlds
it's depressing to think
these unchanging days go by
to a future where there is no you

Wow! The only place I ever hear cats sing is on top of the fence behind the EI Labs, and rather than beautiful and poetic lyrics, it's usually more of a guttural wailing. I think these fabulous felines have something great in store for us! If you wanna see this fascinating new experiment up close, check it out at La Victoire. Hello again, beloved Scienteers!

I'll say this outright: I've never been strong in lab work. I'm more of a rugged adventuring kind of scientist at heart. I like making the discoveries, naming the new species, showing up on the fronts of magazines, and winning the prizes. Suffice to say, this causes a bit of trouble when it comes times for me to do things like mix chemicals, cure diseases, or destroy the evidence of questionably ethical experimentation! It's times like this that I wish I still had an assistant or two! Anyways, somehow, I've managed to whip up another new development for some of our amazing Evolving Items!

-

Purrsuasion Play & Animal: Purrsuasion Play

the single moment we lock eyes
my world is knocked off kilter
swinging dangerously closer to yours
a hopeful flick of my ear
an irritated twitch of your tail
and the difference in our worlds grow smaller

Zodiacal: Equinox: This month, the Astrolabe has turned towards the constellation Scorpio! Serious and inquisitive, the Scorpio is always enlightening to have around! This latest development brings us some fantastic new poses!

Well, junior scientists, it's been a doozy of an update! I have to get back to the grand art of pouring stuff into other stuff and seeing what explodes, but until next time, please remember to vote in our Weekly EI Poll and share your favorites! Science on!

Ahoy, Scienteers!

It's been hard here at the EI Labs. Times are tough all around when it comes to finding new artifacts and making groundbreaking scientific discoveries the likes of which have never been seen before. I might have to take up a new project if I can't dig up another fantastic Evolving Item development soon! I'm certainly not low on funds, but my noble scientific pride just couldn't take the hit of missing one of our amazing weekly updates! I'm thinking that I can moonlight as a superhero. Are there any masked vigilantes with fabulous hair and an aptitude for in your face sciencing?

--Oh! This just in from my pals in Research and Development: Purrsuasion Play has evolved and is full of fantastic new poses for humans and animals alike! Phew! Crisis averted! Let's take a look together:

-

Purrsuasion Play & Animal: Purrsuasion Play

see me at night, the same color as your fur
when your eyes shine the brightest
the gentle pawing against the cold glass between us
keep me company tonight
see me in the morning, the same color as your fur
when your body language cries out for company
the gentle sigh against the cold glass between us
take my paw today

Well, junior scientists, it's been a doozy of an update! Those poor star-crossed cats. I just can't wait to see how this story develops, but until next time, please remember to vote in our Weekly EI Poll and share your favorites! Until we meet again promise me that you won't lose hope for these furry little darlings! Stay tuned, Sciencers!

Ahhh. Take a deep breath: It's a lovely day for experimenting, Sciencers!

The cool breeze is doing wonders for keeping me cool, so I don't even have to use an intern's valuable time to wipe the sweat from my brow! It also means that my hands aren't the least bit slippery, so I don't need two or three interns holding my various tubes and flasks! Honestly, I think I don't need the interns at all. In fact, it's a lovely day for some genetic experimentation...oh, did I say that aloud? Haha. Of COURSE I wouldn't dare! Their contracts don't really cover it.

But hey, on a completely unrelated note: The absolutely darling Purrsuasion Play and [Animal] Purrsuasion play have hit another amazing new developmental milestone! Let's observe:

-

Purrsuasion Play & Animal: Purrsuasion Play

a disagreement in our opinions
wedge a strain between our budding friendship
you ask me to cross the barrier between us
and i stubbornly refuse
a disagreement in our views
frustrates our sensitive feline whiskers
i want to show you the wonderful freedom outside
but you tentatively refuse

Oh no! It sounds like our feline friends are having a bit of a spat. Hopefully they work it out before their relationship is strained beyond repair! I'll wait here with bated breath until the EI Lab issues a followup report. If you wanna see this fascinating experiment up close, check it out at La Victoire. What ho, Sciencers! It's been a long while since we chatted, yes? An entire week of experimentation has gone by, and although we still haven't found that cure for the thing the interns have, we're really doing some great science-ing! Is it really a problem for the interns, though? I would love having superpowers! Even if it came with a few deadly, horrific, extremely cool side-effects. What whiners! I do have to give them some credit though, all of that mutation-fueled rampaging between bouts of precious sanity somehow managed to produce an amazing new development for the fabulous Purrsuasion Play and [Animal] Purrsuasion Play! Let's observe:

-

Purrsuasion Play & nimal: Purrsuasion Play

what is it that you like?
what are your hobbies?
warm milk, fluffy towels, listening the sparrows sing
don't you see we are two different cats?
what is it that you want?
what is your wish?
napping under the sun, chasing pigeons, seeing the world
can we not overcome this challenge?

Ah, that lovely mournful mewling sounds like the inquisitive wailing of some fantastically sweet cats. I think they're onto something wonderful here! Perhaps an adventure is afoot? What a darling pair! I'm sorry to disappoint, but that's the end of today's Evolving Item Report! If you want more kitty-filled fun, you'll simply have to return next week! In the meantime, please be sure to vote in our Weekly EI Poll for your favorite Evolving Items. Have fun out there, Sciencers!

Watch your step, Scienteers! There's a lot of science on the floor. Test tubes, flasks, beakers, strange boxes that sometimes make beeping sounds...It's all very delicate. I'd clean it up, but due to a strange and somewhat horrific lab accident, I've found myself unable to interact with objects on this plane of existence. Cool, right? Walking through walls and accidentally drifting through the ground has been a delightful treat. The downsides include struggling with basic human functions, like eating, using the restroom, and existing in a perceivable manner. The EI Lab technicians have assured me that this condition is completely temporary and should wear off soon, so don't worry about me, friends! In fact, I'm here with great news! The ending to the saga of Purrsuasion Play and [Animal] Purrsuasion Play has arrived! Let's observe:

-

Purrsuasion Play & Animal: Purrsuasion Play

his retreating back slowly disappears into the night
an expression of sadness he cannot see
the unfamiliar throbbing in my chest
ah, so this is love
her reluctant glance before she looks away
an expression of patience she cannot see
the all too familiar throbbing in my chest as i walk away
ah, i am in love
a short tale about two opposite cats
popular stories dictate a happily ever after
but they live in two different worlds
it's depressing to think
these unchanging days go by
to a future where there is no you
so come tomorrow
i will be sitting by the window separating us

MY HEART, SCIENCERS! It's completely shattered! If I had the ability to dab at my face with a tissue, I definitely would. My strange, ghostly tears are going to be absolutely hideous. Maybe I can be assuaged by checking out the amazing new bundles these sweet, sad cats sought fit to leave us with:

-

The Purrsuasion Bundle contains Purrsuasion Play 2nd Gen., Purrsuasion Purrsuit, SDPlus #542 Her Purrsuasion Play, and SDPlus #543 His Purrsuasion Play! Likewise, it's partner the [Animal] Purrsuasion Bundle contains [Animal] Purrsuasion Play 2nd Gen., [Animal] Purrsuasion Purrsuit, [Animal] SDPlus #552 Her Purrsuasion Play, and [Animal] SDPlus #553 His Purrsuasion Play! Fascinating! Scientifically speaking, this is the most efficient way to get a full collection of pure purrfection!

You can find any and all of these wonders in La Victoire, where the physically corporeal may readily travel. Be sure to take a moment to vote in our Weekly EI Poll and share your favorite Evolving Items! Until next time, Sciencers! I can't wait to bring you more amazing evolutionary developments from the delightfully talented Lab.

19 EI Report: Zodiacal: Equinox & The new My Dearly Damned!Edit

  • Icon announceAnnouncement EI Report: Zodiacal: Equinox & The new My Dearly Damned! - [NPC] Dr. Singh Thu Dec 18, 2014 10:24 pm

That's S-I-N-G-H, for the award. Yes, just that exactly. Now does it say "Best Scientist Who Ever Lived" or "Most Amazing Scientist Who Ever Lived"? I'd like to know, because-- Oh! Hello again my beloved junior scientists! How long have you been standing there? Not long enough to spoil the surprise, I hope! I was just on the phone with a few scientific peers, discussing what my amazing discovery might mean for my future as an esteemed researcher. You see, not only has Zodiacal: Equinox made an amazing development, but I have an entirely new Evolving Item to introduce! Come on, Sciencers. Let's observe:

-

Zodiacal: Equinox: This month, the Astrolabe has turned towards the constellation Sagittarius! Lucky, optimistic and charismatic, the bold Sagittarius is a delight to be around! This new development brings us some fantastic and daring new poses!

My Dearly Damned: Many believe angels and demons are antitheses, enemies destined to conflict for all eternity. But what they don't know is that they are the same ilk, and it is only a long and violent history of deceit and prejudice that separates them. They were once brothers and sisters, families, lovers. And sometimes, this fact reasserts itself...

In a dark age, but long after the darkest ages, an angel came to the ground to search for a demon. He was meant to hate and avoid them, as he had been taught his whole youth, but he could not contain a burgeoning fascination that set him apart from his celestial brethren. So one day, he stole an ancient book, hid on the mortal plane, and attempted to summon one.

A fascinating discovery, isn't it? I've already called all the international media outlets and scientific research institutes. It's only a matter of time before the whole world sees this amazing new Evolving Item! Before you rush off to La Victoire so that my dear business associate Jet can offer you one of these intriguing items, be sure to visit the Weekly EI Poll Thread and share with us which one you're enjoying the most! I'll see you next time, Scienteers!

26 EI Report: My Dearly Damned and the new Pocket Paws!Edit

  • Icon announceAnnouncement EI Report: My Dearly Damned and the new Pocket Paws! - [NPC] Dr. Singh Fri Dec 26, 2014 5:11 pm

Ahoy, Sciencers! Still hypothesizing, analyzing, and soliloquizing? I know I am! In fact, I was just talking to myself the other day about a particularly interesting new theory on just what makes those Evolving Items tick. You see, I'm almost under the impression that they're battery-operated! Every last one of 'em. And if my Evolving Items run on double or triple As, maybe all it takes to hasten up the evolution process is a timely zap. I decided to give it a shot, so I threw My Dearly Damned into a big tube and let loose the volts. To my surprise, it totally worked! Not only that, but when I started fiddling with some of the wiring afterwards, out fell two totally new Evolving Items! I'll be scienced! Let's observe:

-

|My Dearly Damned: The demon, a lower servant of hell, had never taken pleasure in torture and suffering like his kin, and spent his days avoiding them in the underworld. Perhaps this isolation was why he was the easiest to rip out onto the mortal plane. Startled, then furious, he whirled to find the one who summoned him... and froze. A string of ancient satanic expletives ran through his head, just as the angel uttered a quiet holy word. Both vocalizations roughly translate in modern language to the equivalent of, "Oh no. He's hot."

[Animal] Her Pocket Paw & [Animal] His Pocket Paw

You open your holiday present and what do you find? Why it's one of those cute little electronic toys that lets you raise your own Pocket Paw from baby to adulthood! Oh wow, these things used to be everywhere... they must be making a come back. You turn it on and immediately fall in love with your precious baby paw dancing on the screen. Time to see to it's needs...

Wow! What an amazing new development, my little Scienteers. Do you think we can recreate that same phenomena by restaging that exact sequence of events again? Maybe...maybe we can put other things in there and see how they withstand the charge...Food? Gadgets? Bacteria? Interns? Ah, there's certainly some science to be had! Please don't forget to vote in the latest Weekly EI Poll to support your favorites! And if you want to get your hands on one of these fabulous Evolving Items, visit La Victoire!
