2012 (MMXII) was Gaia's Tenth year and its Ninth anniversary.

With offsite Gaia related games continuing to expand on Facebook, the resources to work on them brought an end to future zOMG! updates. Following 2011 the staff continued with Dev Notices and minor site updates, along with events, storyline manga, announcements. The newest Gaia HQ released games are Summer Springs, Soul Crash, with Monster Galaxy becoming playable without a Facebook account, and another game (Heralds of Chaos) currently in testing. In February the Gold Shop, CrosStitch, was introduced. This shop is used for item contests. In April a new Cash Shop was released in relation to licensed anime in the US region, the MechaNeko shop is the first shop that is regionally blocked due to licensing. In the same month the game site OMGPOP was bought out by another company, making the contract with Gaia void. In May the Wii contests returned, Gaians who signed in a number of times were automatically entered. From then on a number of mini events were created to participate in.

The maintenance over the course of the year, brought a 'items worn' window to the Avatar Dress Up page, item stacking, quantity purchase option for shops, the forum update resulting in faster loading and guilds slowly being updated to match the main forums.

Trivia[]

March 14, 2012. The Cash Shop (La Victoire) became integrated with the Gaia Shop directory, instead of a popup it is now a shop.
June 15, 2012. The item Prima Poppet is the first arm mod released as a Monthly Collectible.
August 2012. The Prize & Joy shop became the source to purchase game tokens, making the Gold Mountain lobby obsolete.
September 21, 2012. In a journal posting a Dev reported that the original Gaia Towns (called Towns 1) would gradually be phased out in place of Towns 2. (see) Journal: Looking Forward

January 18, 2012. Gaia Online participated in the SOPA protest. Allowing for discussion and debate in a Hot Topic forum. September 17, 2012. Gaia Online reaches it's 10 millionth item with the release of the Black Tonfa, an item considered to be the first handheld. (see) Thread (post): Gaia Item Changes Complete
